Required Summer Reading Assignment for Advanced English Read a specific book per grade level and complete a written assignmentWritten assignment is due on the first day of school

TMS 7 th & 8 th English Required Summer Reading Assignment for English 7 and 8 Read one book from approved middle school list In-class activity to be completed during weeks two-four of school Copies of the books may be available in the schools, at public libraries, and at local book stores. Summer reading lists will be available in the front office & on the TMS web page.

TMS “High School Credit” Means? MATH: Algebra 1 A/B & Advanced Geometry World Language: Traditional Classroom: French, Spanish Virtual: German, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic Final grades and credits/verified credits are recorded on student’s high school transcript (GPA) High school curriculum = more rigorous; requires consistent, daily effort for success An opportunity when students are ready--- not a race

TMS Habits for Success in High School Credit Courses At home: Complete the homework the same day as the class It’s all about the quality and extra effort!Dig deeper – use independent strategies Ist, then human resourcesConsistent review the “off” night – correct recently graded & missed homework, watch videos, make flash cards for vocabulary, use teacher websites & resources In class: Be systematic about checking & highlighting homework – diagnostic tool!Ask questions Self monitor learning & make a habit of seeking extra help early on Growth mindset vs a fixed mindset – how does the student respond to a challenge?

TMS Notes/Year Long Courses Beginning Band (no experience ), Intermediate Band (1 yr or permission) rent or buy an instrument, or Advanced Band (2 yrs or permission)must commit to 15 minutes daily for practiceYearbook (application process) - serious, fun, product-focused, computer skills, some outside of class time commitments, real deadlines, teamwork, good experience for high school yearbook class Students who choose Yearbook as a top choice will get invited to attend an interest meeting. At the meeting Mrs. Ernest will distribute a yearbook application and the class roster will be chosen from the applications that are turned in.
