PASSIVE SENTENCES Only active sentences with a Direct Object can be changed to passive voice English sentence structures SUBJECT: 1st in the sentence VERB: follow the subject , it’s usually followed by a D.O or an Indirect Object D.O: Essential because it will be the subject of the passive sentence , so sentences without D.O can be made passive ones

When restructuring active into passive we have to make 2 major changes 1. The D.O of the active will be the subject of the passive one 2. The VERB. Every passive sentence contains a “”BE” verb + PAST PARTICIPLE form of the original active ACTIVE EAT WROTE WILL PLANT IS BAKING WAS WATCHING HAS READ HAVE CLEANED IS GOING TO BREAK PASSIVE IS /ARE EATEN WAS/WERE WRITTEN WILL BE PLANTED IS BEING BAKED WAS BEEN WATCHED HAS BEEN READ HAVE BEEN CLEANED IS GOING TO BE BROKEN

The subject of the action sometimes is not needed , you don’t know who she/he is or don’t need to mention it.If you need to do it, it must be mentioned by a BY” phrase George Orwell wrote 1984 1984 was written by George Orwell

USES ACTIVE: SUBJECT and DIRECT OBJECT are important PASSIVE: The one performing the action is not important The exam was completed We don’t know who perform the action My car was stolen The one performing the action is obvious She was fired ( obviously by her boss )
