Reception Class5th November 2015

We hope you all had a lovely half term break! The children have come to school well rested and ready to learn. Our topic for this half term is ‘P irates.’ The children have really enjoyed our new role play area which we converted into a pirate ship. They have had some wonderful adventures going to “Coconut Island” and looking for treasure. We have also had fun learning the words and actions to ‘The Pirate Song.’We have a very fun and festive half term ahead which we are very much looking forward to.

PhonicsIn phonics this term we are concentrating on blending the sounds together in order for the children to read and write. It is quite a tricky skill for the children to grasp but they are doing very well with it.

LiteracyWe have started off our pirate theme in literacy by reading the story ‘Pirates Love Underpants.’ In this story the pirates search for the ‘golden underpants.’ We have gone on a treasure hunt around school this week to find the golden underpants trophy. For each clue in the treasure hunt the children had to complete the clue by using rhyming words.

Homework. This weeks sound to be completed for homework is ‘c’ and ‘k.’ Please encourage your child to write these sounds and find pictures of objects beginning with these sounds.Thank you for your support.

Maths

Continuing with our Pirate theme we have been matching numeral to quantity using pirates treasure this week. We have also been concentrating on writing our numbers making sure they are the right way round.
