Welcome to RRMS 6th Grade Jump Start Day!

Our Purpose Today: The staff of RRMS knows that the transition to middle school can be nerve racking – for students and parents alike. We want to ease students’ nerves by providing opportunities to navigate the school, practicing with their lockers and locks, and meeting some of our wonderful staff. We also want to establish an open and supportive relationship with all RRMS parents.

Jumpstart Information This PowerPoint will be made available on our school website (rioranchomiddle.rrps.net) if you would like to review any of this information. You should also have received a map of the school. Students are encouraged to keep this map handy until they know their way around.

RRMS Behavior All RRMS students, parents, and staff are expected to display RRMS behavior at all times and in all places. RRMS stands for behavior that is: R espectful R esponsible M indful S afe

RRMS is a PBS school! RRMS staff enjoys rewarding students for good behavior, not simply addressing the bad. Positive Referrals can be written by teachers or other students for students who demonstrate a positive behavior trait. Students get prizes for being nominated and later, large prize drawings are done. P ositive B ehavior S upport (PBS)

PBS Fun Day To reward good behavior, PBS sponsors a FUN DAY for all students who do not receive a certain amount of discipline referrals. FUN DAY takes place toward the end of the school year, in May.Snacks, inflatables, games, sumo wrestling, etc.!

Hallway/Lunch BehaviorHallway/InsideRemove hatsWalk, do not run. No saving places or buying for others . Tackling and pushing is not allowed. Students must eat in the main cafeteria and be seated. (No food outside)

PowerSchool (Grades) RRMS EXPECTS all parents and/or guardians to sign-up for PowerSchool and monitor their student’s performance and attendance. Report cards will not be printed. Please pick up your login and password information at the front office, if you have not done so already.

School Website PowerSchool is our online gradebook. By signing up you can view your student’s grades at any time. School webpages can be accessed at https://rioranchomiddle.rrps.net/. Every teacher has a webpage that parents are encouraged to check often for class and school-wide information .

Student Lockers Students will be assigned a locker today if they have a lock. If not, they will be assigned one upon getting a lock and providing the combination.Students should not be going to their locker between every class, as they will be late. It’s recommended that students get what they need for 2-3 classes at a time, so they have time during their other passing periods to use the restroom and/or drink water. Sharing of lockers and combinations is not allowed, even with your friends.

Student Lockers 6th graders must bring in their own locks to secure their lockers this year.If students do not bring a lock, they should not use their locker. RRPS is not liable for stolen items.Practice your lock at home so you can quickly open your locker here.Students will be required to give their combination to their teacher in case the locker needs to be opened for security reasons. If it cannot be opened, the lock will be cut . Just a reminder that the locker is RRPS property, not the student’s.

Safety: Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Parents/Guardians: It is imperative that the following procedures are adhered to at all times for the safety of your child(ren) and the safety of others. To drop-off/pick-up your child from RRMS before/after school: *Please refer to the diagram on the back of yourMaps.

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Pick-Up & Drop-Off of students is to occur ONLY in the designated lane at the back of the school.Enter farthest north entrance (near Idalia, not the bus exit).Drop-off/pick-up in right lane only (next to curb). Please keep moving with the flow of traffic. Please pull up as far as possible for pick-up . Do not wait/stop near 6 th grade wing or gym, which will hold up traffic. Staff will be directing students to the front of the line. Vehicles can use both lanes until they reach a merging point, where they will be directed to the curb. Students will not be allowed to cross the pick-up lane to enter vehicles in the left lane.

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Exit the southernmost exit…Watch for buses!DO NOT use either staff parking lot for drop-off/pick-ups! This is a SAFETY ISSUE. After school (about 3:25, after the first week of school ), students who are still waiting for pick-up will be ushered into the building to wait for their ride, ensuring proper supervision. Parents arriving after the buses have left, may pick-up their student at the front of the school. Repeat offenders who choose to not comply with the above will be referred to our School Resource Officer, who may ticket drivers.

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Note: For the first few weeks of school the parent pickup/drop-off lane will be busy. Please be patient and follow these procedures. We promise, as everyone is familiarized with the procedure, it WILL get better.

Thank you in advance for helping us set a good example for your children!

Before 8:04 am, ALL students are to be in the cafeteria, courtyard, or library (if open) only.During lunch, students are not allowed in the halls without a pass.AT ALL TIMES, students must use the sidewalks.
