Box 90 Mobile AL 36601 334-438-3411 TELEDYNE CONTINENTAL ® AIRCRAFT ENGINE Compliance Will Enhance Safety, Maintenance or Economy of Operation SUBJECT:NUMBER ONE AND THREE CYLINDER INTAKE TUBE MODIFICATION Provide Installation Flexibility To Avoid Loading Tube Flange MODELS I0-360-ES, TSI0-360-MB, SB, RB AND LTSI0-360-RB REMOVAL Remove engine cowling and any components thatobstruct access to the number one and numberthree cylinder induction tubes in accordance withthe airframe manufacturer’s instructions. 2. Remove four nuts, four lock washers and four 3. Loosen four hose clamps and separate the numberone and number three cylinder induction tubesfrom the intake manifold. Remove and discard 4. Remove the number one and number threecylinder intake tubes from the engine. 5. Remove the mounting flanges from the intaketubes and clean using stoddard solvent. Storeflanges in a clean protected area until intake tube 6. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the tube flange Fluorescent penetrant inspection must beperformed in accordance with ASTM E 1417.Specific process procedures are referenced inASTM E 1208, E 1209, or E 1219. Thepenetrant method used must be Type I Kit P/N EQ6977 which contains: a. 1ea. new hose P/N 642917-16 b. 2 ea. clamps P/NAN737TW74 c. 1 ea. Gasket P/N 654227 may be ordered from TCM for reassembly of thenumber one and number three cylinder induction NOTE…Order two kits to modify both number oneand number three cylinder induction tubes. MODIFICATION The number one and number three cylinder inductiontubes may be modified using the following Cut and remove material from the number oneand number three cylinder intake tubes inaccordance with Figure 1. After material has beenremoved debur the tube ends. Using 180 gritpaper, roughen 1/2 inch from the edge of the newcuts inward on each tube piece to improve hoseseating. Clean the tubes using stoddard solvent.The tubes must be free of any debris. Box 90 Mobile AL 36601 334-438-3411 2. The reworked tube assemblies now have new partnumbers. Part numbers 655230-1 for the tubeportion with the flange and 655230-2 for theinboard tube portion for cylinder number oneintake tube. Part numbers 655224-1 for the tubeportion with the flange and 655224-2 for theinboard tube portion for cylinder number three REASSEMBLY Place flange on tube assemblies 655230-1 and655224-1. Using new gaskets P/N 654227 installtube assemblies on number one and number threecylinders. Adjust intake tubes so they are seatedsquarely on cylinder flremaining section of tube and casting. Secureusing two nuts P/N AN315-5R, two washers P/NAN960-516L and two new lock washers P/N Do not pre-load the tube flange. 2. Install a new hose P/N 642917-16 and two newclamps AN737TW74 on tubes 655230-1 and655224-2. Adjust hose and clamps so that tubeends can be aligned and attached. Install tube endinto manifold hose and clamp. Attach tube655230-2 end to tube 655230-1 and 655224-2 end Torque the tube to cylinder flange nuts to 50-70inch pounds. Torque all clamps (19) to 40-50 inch Install any components that that were removed togain access to the number one and three cylinderinduction tubes in accordance with the airframemanufacturer’s instructions. WARNING During engine inspection run, do not stand orallow anyone else to stand in the propeller arc Start and operate the engine in accordance withthe airframe manufacturer’s airplane flightmanual (AFM) and inspect for any leaks. The engine must be operating properly and free ofany leaks prior to returning it to service. Install engine cowling in accordance with theairframe manufacturer’s instructions.
