Sneaky Uses for Everyday Things with Author Cy Tymony Saturday, March 10, 2 p.m. Shorewood Public Library, Lower Level 3920 North Murray Avenue Shorewood, Wisconsin Have fun learning how you can do mor e than what you think with what you already have. This is a great eve nt to ignite kids' interest in science, creativity, recycling and books! Cy Tymony will reveal amazing storie s about sneaky resourcefulness including: people who make boats out of m ilk cartons, the window washer who used a squeegee to save an elevator c ar full of people on September 11, 2001, as well as the story of the Cold itz glider, an 18 - foot airplane built by prisoners in a Ge rman war camp out of materials scavenged from their beds and sleeping bags. He will demonstrate how ordinary objec ts can be used in extraordinary ways including: how a penny can be used to make a radio, h ow any AM/FM radio can receive aircraft broadcasts, h ow to make fire with water, how to turn milk into a plastic ring that can detect counterfeit currency and turn on device, and more. Attendees will make their own boomerangs made from bookmarks, flying disks made from paper and learn to make a 007 'gadget jacket.' Cy will supply all of the materials an d instruction sheets so family members can continue their sneaky crafts at home. All ages will enjoy the "Sneaky Uses" author talk/demonstration. Author information Cy Tymony has created his homemade inv entions since he was a kid. His imagination and innovative way of looki ng at the world continues today as a technical writer and computer network specialist in the Los Angeles area. He has appeare d on CNN and NPR, an d has been featured in the Los Angeles Times and U.S. News& World Repo rt. Cy has performed for grade school kids and ad ults alike at over 100 schools, bookstores and libraries across the US and Canada. Cy will be in Milwaukee to pres ent at the UWM Spring Writers Festival. Thank you to Southwest Airlines for supporting this event by donating airfare for Cy's visit.
