The first Halloween was started by the Celts 2000 years ago.On the first of November the Celts celebrated Samhain .On the night before Samhain, the 31stof October they believed the dead came to life as spirits .So they would disguise themselves as the dead with masks . Slide2

Traditions

You may all know about Trick or Treating ,where you get lots of sweets.For the treats you go dressing up and going to houses for sweets or fruit.Or tricks like fireworks, bonfire’s and egging house’s Slide3

WITCHES

Witches are usually women with green skin and dressed in black with a pointy hat.And why the black hat, well you see in the 15th century it was a very popular type of head wear. And why the broom, it was used as a common household tool and also it was believed that witches hid their wands in their broom sticks during witch hunts .Slide4

PUMPKINS

Also known as the Jack o lantern.And why is it associated with Halloween, because it is believed to represent a spirit every time it is light.Back in the 19th century Irish people would use turnip instead of pumpkin to scare away unwanted visitors.Slide5

GAMES

Bobbing for apples: Step 1 get a basin and fill it with water.Step 2: put apples into basin and be ready to get wet .Pass the apple This Halloween game can also be played with oranges. line up everyone playing the same number of people in each line. They have to pass the apple to the person behind them only using their chin, without using hands or dropping the apple. If the apple drops a team must start from the beginning again.Slide6

The Banshee is an Irish myth that is said to haunt the ancient Irish families and will show up in a household because someone in the house is going to die and then scream and disappear.
