Slide7Training in the OU Library
The Library Story
1 hour training sessions using Blackboard Collaborate
Facebook chats
Facebook live
Face to face training (very rarely)
Events which raise the profile of the library and student awareness
Slide8What we’ve found...
Why Facebook for the Library?
Many more students attend Facebook live events and Facebook chats than attend Webinar training
Easy for students (and us!) to use
Content generated in Facebook Live can be used elsewhere
You can add captions to improve accessibility
Slide9Ok, so there are some negatives
There are some downsides...
Not specifically designed for teaching
Interacting with large numbers of students is hard
Have limited information about those that attend
Unclear how long students stay in the session
Not all students are happy using Facebook as a learning tool
We think we reach non library users with Facebook but we can’t be sure

Project:
Free CCNA1 … 1130 signed up (970 still active)
We needed an external non-OU tool that scaled and did not have any ‘membership’ requirements
Weekly webinars via a Facebook Page … FBL sessions late afternoon, every Mondayhttps://www.facebook.com/OpenUniversityCiscoASC/
