By : Emma SchukraftSlide2

Black or blue jeans were the

most popular.

Jeans were worn with a 1” to

4” cuff.

Many times jeans were worn

with rips and frayed holes.

Most guys wore Converse

Chuck Taylor All–Stars with

their jeans.Slide3

Denim

Leather

Greaser’s were a working class subculture

popularized in the 1960’s.

Entertainers such as Marlon Brando and James

Dean influenced their style.

Many joined and wore jackets displaying their

groups gang name.

Jackets consisted of black leather or blue

jean denim.

Jackets were usually wore with the collar

flipped up.Slide4

Most greasers wore either a black

or white T-shirt.

Most of the time the sleeves were

rolled.

The T-shirts were always worn tight.

Another popular trend in footwear

were motorcycle boots.

They were usually black, shinny,

and were high top boots. Slide5

Girl greaser’s wore their hair big and poufy (the bigger the better).

Just like the guys, they also wore denim and leather jackets.

Their shoes consisted of either flat or high heeled pumps.

They too, wore cuffed jeans or black leather pants.

Girl greaser’s often wore clothes that were too tight.Slide6

Soc Men

Soc men wore rings when they jumped greasers so it would cause more pain and damage when they punched.

In The Outsiders, Bob Sheldon wore a set of three heavy rings when he fought the greasers.

Socs

wore their hair moderately cut (not too long, but not too short) and often styled it in a wave like form.

The men also wore wide, flashy printed ties that contrasted with the wallpaper floral prints of their shirts.

Vests, London caps, and narrow

Carnaby

jackets were also of style during the time.Slide8

Soc Women

Women had rectangular, small bags with short handle or shoulder straps. These bags always matched their shoes. In the 1960’s, girls loved to curl their hair. Anything from big deep curls, to small tight ones, or even split curls.

The

soc

girls also like to wear headbands.

Girls also wore false eyelashes and pale lipsticks.

They tended to wear bold accessories such as big earrings and pearls.

Dally from The Outsiders messed with Cherry and her friend Marcia at the drive in.Slide9

Greasers

The term “greaser” is derived from the slicked back, waxed hairstyle that many young men wore in that time period. Greasers wore hairstyles such as the pompadour, ducktail, or waterfall.

A pompadour is when the hair is brushed high off the forehead and styled with pomade.

A ducktail, also referred as a duck’s butt, is when hair on each side of the head is combed back and held in place with a greasy substance.

A waterfall is the same as a ducktail in the back, but in the front the hair is swirled into a lock that is placed on the center of the forehead.

GreasersMen - Accessories

Accessories included leather belts and sometimes chained wallets.

Greasers also sometimes wore white tennis shoes such as Converse All Stars or black boots.

Many greasers also carried around a switchblade. A switchblade is a weapon used in rumbled between the

socs

and the greasers.

A switchblade is a type of Knife with a folding or sliding blade contained in the handle which is opened automatically by a spring when a button, lever, switch on the handle or bolster is activated.

Switchblades remain illegal to import from abroad or to purchase through interstate commerce since 1958 under the Switchblade Knife Act.

GreasersWomen

Girl Greasers wore their hair in high ponytails with lots of curls.

They also liked to include bandanas somewhere in their outfits.

For most girl greasers, they often wore too much makeup, such as bright red lipstick and heavy eye shadow. They also showed a lot of skin in their body fitting outfits.

Women often wore chucky necklaces, lots of bracelets, and sometimes wore dark sunglasses.

Tall heels and boots usually completed the girl’s look.Slide12
