“The Golden Fish”

Paul Klee was a modern artist who was also a musician and writer.

He used all of his talents to create his own style of abstract art.

Abstract does not need to look like anything real. It creates emotion, feeling and ideas through color and shape. Slide3

“Fugue in Red”, 1921

“Krystal Gradation”

Some of his paintings have a musical feel to them, using repeating patterns of color and shapes that give rhythm or movement to his art.Slide4

Klee wanted to show new and exciting worlds filled with magic, fantasy and even humor in his art.

“Twittering Machine” 1922.

“Castle and Sun”Slide5

“Magic Garden”, 1926.

Klee enjoyed experimenting with the materials he used in his art.

Sometimes he used watercolors, but would paint on cloth.

The piece of art to the right called , “Magic Garden”, was created using oil paints, but on a canvas of cardboard with wire mesh attached to it and filled with plaster. Slide6

“Red Bridge”

“Senecio”

Many of his greatest works are just colors and shapes.Slide7

What is one thing that you learned today about Paul Klee?Slide8

Art Project: “Castle and Sun”

Put your name on the back of your paper.

Starting at the bottom of your construction paper, begin to stack and trace your cardboard shapes with a pencil until you have built a castle to your liking.

Add a sun or moon somewhere in the sky.

When you are finished, trace your lines with a white colored pencil and fill in your shapes using oil pastels, crayon or colored pencils.

This project can also be done by cutting shapes out of different colored construction paper and gluing them on the page in the same stacking format.

Art Project: “Senecio”

Using a pencil, draw a circle in the center of your paper (use a 6 inch template if needed).

Below the circle, add on the neck and shoulders using simple lines.

Trace all the lines with a dark crayon, pressing firmly.

Lightly dampen your paper with a paint brush and water.

Place your squares of tissue paper on top of the damp drawing in a grid-like format. Make sure to press the tissue papers down firmly.

Once your paper is covered, check to see if the color has transferred. You can even allow the tissue paper to partially dry for a deeper, more vibrant color.

P

ull the tissue papers off and throw them away.
