Jews struggled to keep their identity

They practice their customs but one day wanted to go back to the Holy Land and rebuild their temple

They also looked forward to a time where they had their own king again

The term Messiah means anointed one. Before being exiled the leaders would be anointed with special oils

The people kept hoping for an anointed king

During times of trouble the people turned to spiritual leaders or prophets for advice
