HUHA’s aission Statement Helping you help animals (HUHA) is dedicated to teaching empathy to the community and providing shelter for those less fortunate animals that struggle to survive in today’s disposable culture. The sanctuary is fun and interactive in many ways, designed to encourage our community to be proactive and take responsibility for the welfare of animals and the protection of our unique environment. HUHA actively works every day to find homes and foster care for a multitude of homeless, abandoned, seized and abused a nimals. Veterinarian, other animal coordinators and managers Key rela tionships Internal: CEO, Trustees, Facility Manager, Operations & Shift Co - ordinator, shelter volunteers External: General public ROLE PURPOSE The H UHA Cat Coordinators ensure a well - run shelter is available as a sanctuary for cats who have no where else to go and provides a place of informed contact for those who wish to surrender cats and those wishing to adopt cats. KEY OPERATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Animal Management/Care • Responsible for the socialising and m anagement of cats. Providing a safe environment. • Reporting of any health issues of cats to shelter management. • Ensuring that enrichment is provided to cats in the shelter and providing advice to staff and volunteers on enrichment techniques that are effect ive and compatible with HUHA’s philosophy of animal management and programmes for development. • Liaise with Management on any requests to surrender an animal from the visiting public, and once approved, complete all appropriate paperwork. • Liaise with shelter management on cat health/quarantine issues • Liaise with shelter management on training/behavioural plans/sessions • Oversea the cleaning/feeding and care of additional animals at the shelter(cats, rabbits, hens etc) as required Frontline reception for the HUHA cat department (Phones, emails, frontdoor) • The Receptionist is a pivotal person in the shelter environment, as the

y are the first point of contact with clients and visitors. They also co - ordinate the services and have a ma jor role to play in prioritising work flows and managing client expectations. Therefore, he/she provides front line reception services, and assists and communicates with staff accordingly. • Clear communication with all staff • log all calls and outcomes. • ente r any relevant information on the Shelter Manager system • emails respond to in a timely manner. • a sense of urgency when an animal is reported to be at risk. • A helpful and problem - solving attitude to difficult requests and situations • Strictly adhering to HUHA’ s core values and protocols at all times • If unsure as for advice or help from another HUHA team member • training volunteers to answer the phone only if and when appropriate. • Rostered shifts on the the main HUHA phone line. Volunteer Staff Management • Res ponsible for all volunteers who undertake any activities for the shelter — training and development of volunteer staff (includes shift volunteers) • reviewing work processes regularly for areas of improvement • keeping volunteer staff informed of necessary proce dures — new and developing. • responsible for ensuring that the Health and Safety practices and procedures of the shelter are known about and understood by every person who enters the shelter and that there is ready access to those rules for any person and rule s are strictly followed. Adoptions • Liaise with the Facility Manager to confidently introduce animals to potential adopters and complete all appropriate paperwork. • Take general adoption enquiries from the visiting public and by phone. • Organise and carry out checks on potential adopters including property checks where appropriate and safe. Customer Service and Public Relations • Meet and greet visitors in a professiona l, kind and engaged manor. DAILY OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT • Lead the morning and/or afternoon shift • ensuring that daily cleaning, feeding and enrichment is achieved with care, health and safety in mind. • Administering medications under veterinary direction. • L iaise with shelter management regarding medications (dosage, supply, c

hanges etc) • Undertaking all necessary administrative and processing tasks in a timely and efficient manner. • Incident reporting and investigation • Hazard identification and reporting to ma nagement (both human and animal) • Keep up to date with all information boards to ensure a clear understanding of the cats in care, and adoption requirements. • Ensure washing/cleaning is up to date • Ensure all spaces are kept hygienic, clean and tidy. • Ensure all cages, exercise areas and dirt trays are regularly checked and cleaned throughout the day including ensuring removal of faeces, comfortable bedding, fresh water and adequate shelter from sun/rain. • Update daily diary notes in book and on Shelter Manage r Computer System • Manage weed & pest control on property. • Keep entrances/exits clear and inviting PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential skills: • great empathy and confidence with animals of all kinds (including fearful, reactive and grieving animals) • Vet Nursing qualifications preferred but not essential . • assessment skills – to cover the ability to assess the mental and physical status of animal at any time • Animal behavioural qualification or equivalent experience preferred • strong motivational and empowerment skills • strong communication skills – written an d verbal • driver’s licence • Able to drive 4x4 manual • ability to identify, improve and write protocols. Essential attributes: • physical and mental strength/wellbeing • ability to work well in a team • passionate about animals, their care, their rights, their impor tance • strong problem - solving skills • works well with all kinds of people • confidence to interact with the public • takes initiative • remains calm under pressure • excellent attention to detail and capacity for retaining a great deal of important information • natural empathy and understanding for animals and for people • an infinity and understanding of the principals of HUHA and what the organisation strives for • Availability to t ravel on rescues. • A keenness to volunteer beyond the scope of this job. • Commun icates regularly and well with management
