Announcing new principal at Capitol Hill, Aimee Alexander-Shea July  Dear Capitol Hill Community, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Aimee Alexander-Shea will be the new principal at Capitol Hill Elementary School. Aimee is a deeply experienced educator with decades of experience at multiple levels. She will succeed Kevin Walker, who served as principal last year. We thank Kevin for his dedication and wish him all the best in his new position as principal of Rosa Parks Elementary School. Aimee comes to us from the Gresham-Barlow School District, where she served as an assistant principal at Gresham High School since . She was at the forefront of the school’s equity work, including removing an application for honors English courses, coordinating ongoing professional development to clustered teachers for English Language Learners, working to close equity gaps in graduation rates, and implementing International Baccalaureate for all students in English and Social Studies. During the - school year, Aimee served concurrently as principal of the REY Academy, the district’s alternative high school, where she implemented an intervention system to provide targeted support to students. Aimee started her education career as a second and third grade teacher in Tampa, Florida. She has also taught at the college level as an adjunct professor of Social Studies Education at the University of South Florida, a tenured associate professor of developmental reading at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, and the lead faculty for Eastern Oregon University’s Elementary Education program at the Gresham - MHCC location. Aimee earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Education from the University of Florida, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of South Florida.
