Last Week… We finished reading Out of the Dust and discussed two more themes it contained. We discussed the principles of how to write an essay.We did not actually write an essay. I hope to return to that concept later.

Last Week… Out of the Dust left us with two very important themes:

Perhaps it’s all about… The way I see it, hard times aren’t only about money, or drought, or dust. Hard times are about losing spirit, and hope, and what happens when dreams dry up.

Perhaps it’s all about… As we walk together, side by side, in the swell of dust, I am forgiving him, step by step, for the pale of kerosene.As we walk together, side by side, in the sole-deep dust, I am forgiving myself for all the rest.

Today… We will begi n discussing and working on a research project related to the Dust Bowl.Our goal is for each of us to publish an online newspaper article, with news stories, links, and pictures, by the end of the week. This is called an interactive news article.

Important Techniques: 1. Descriptive Details = lots of words of phrases to describe.2. Examples = actual times that something happened .

Important Techniques: 1. Statistics = numbers, figures, charts, measurements.2. Anecdotes = details in the form of stories.
