What is the real meaning of Matthew 6:33?

Matthew 6:33- But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Are

you following Matthew 6:33 in your life?

We have heard this scripture over and over again, and I'm afraid we don't understand the real meaning of what Jesus was trying to say.

Have you ever asked yourself what exactly Jesus meant when He said:

SEEK YE FIRST?

REALLY, WHAT WAS THE MEANING OF THAT?Slide8

When Jesus says

"seek first"

, what He was saying was:

There is only "one important thing in life"."Leave anything that is not spiritual - unattended, and attend what is more valuable" (only if you are ignoring the spiritual).

Investigate, search, and exhaust anything in your life, in order to seek.

Be Godly

, live life as if you will die today, or as if Lord Jesus will return in the next 5 minutes.

Do

not procrastinate

the things that you need to get done in the Spiritual realm.

Remember we live

only once,

and after, comes the Judgement of Christ!

Matthew 16:26 - For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?Slide9

Assemble with the Church When It Assembles?

Assembling

was a priority for early Christians (Acts 2:46; 5:42; 12:5; 20:7)Acts 2:46 NKJV

[46] So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,

Acts 5:42 NKJV

[42] And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Acts 12:5 NKJV

[5] Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.

Acts 20:7 NKJV

[7] Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.Slide10

Assemble with the Church When It Assembles?

Assembling is to be a priority for us

(Heb. 10:24-25; John 14:15)

Hebrews 10:24-25 NKJV[24] And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, [25] not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

John 14:15 NKJV

[15] "If you love Me, keep My commandments.Slide11

Assemble with the Church When It Assembles?

Assembling was a priority for early Christians

(Acts 2:46; 5:42; 12:5; 20:7)Assembling is to be a priority for us

(Heb. 10:24-25; John 14:15)Slide12

Am I actually seeking first if…

I am inclined to make excuses to not assemble?

I assemble only when it is convenient for me?A seeking-first heart doesn’t assemble because

“I have to” but because “I want to”!Slide13

Spread the Good News That Propagates It?

Spreading the good news was a priority for early Christians (Acts 8:1-4; 4:20)

Acts 8:1-4 NKJV

[1] Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. [2] And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. [3] As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison. [4] Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.

Acts 4:20 NKJV

[20] For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."Slide14

Spread the Good News That Propagates It?

Spreading the good news is to be a priority for us

(1 Cor. 15:3-4; Matt. 28:19-20)1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NKJV

[3] For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, [4] and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV

[19] Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.Slide15

Am I actually seeking first if…

I am inclined to make excuses to not spread the good news?

I spread the good news only when it is convenient for me?A seeking-first heart doesn’t tell the good news because

“I have to” but because “I want to”!Slide16

Give Sacrificially to Further Its Cause?

Giving sacrificially was a priority for early Christians

(Acts 4:32-37; 2 Cor. 8:1-5)

Acts 4:34-35 NKJV[34] Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, [35] and laid them at the apostles' feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.

2 Corinthians 8:1-2 NKJV

[1] Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: [2] that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.Slide17

Give Sacrificially to Further Its Cause?

Giving sacrificially is to be a priority for us

(2 Cor. 8:7-9; 9:6-7; 1 Cor. 16:1-2; Luke 6:38)

2 Corinthians 8:7-9 NKJV[7] But as you abound in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us-see that you abound in this grace also. [8] I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others. [9] For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 NKJV

[6] But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. [7] So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 NKJV

[1] Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: [2] On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.

Luke 6:38 NKJV

[38] Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."Slide18

Am I actually seeking first if…

I am inclined to make excuses to not give sacrificially?

I give sacrificially only when it is convenient for me?A seeking-first heart doesn’t give sacrificially because

“I have to” but because “I want to”!Slide19

Serve Its Members to Strengthen It?

Serving each other was a priority for early Christians

(Phil. 2:25-30; 1 Cor. 16:15; 2 Cor. 12:15)

Philippians 2:25-26 NKJV[25] Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need; [26] since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.

1 Corinthians 16:15 NKJV

[15] I urge you, brethren-you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints-

2 Corinthians 12:15 NKJV

[15] And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.Slide20

Serve Its Members to Strengthen It?

Serving each other is to be a priority for us

(Matt. 25:31-46; Gal. 5:13; 6:10; Jas 1:27)

Matthew 25:35-36 NKJV[35] for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; [36] I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'

Galatians 5:13 NKJV

[13] For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Galatians 6:10 NKJV

[10] Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

James 1:27 NKJV

[27] Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.Slide21

Am I actually seeking first if…

I am inclined to make excuses to not serve my brethren?

I serve my brethren only when it is convenient for me?A seeking-first heart doesn’t serve because

“I have to” but because “I want to”!Slide22
