10. UNT Policy 07.001 Student TravelReview the policy before going on your trip.The policy applies to all activities and events that are university-organized/sponsored that are occurring more than 25 miles from the campus.

11. UNT Policy 07.001 Student TravelStudents traveling by motor vehicle must follow these guidelines:Students driving must be approved to operate a University-owned vehicle, if a university vehicle is being used.Students must wear a seat belt and other required safety devices at all times.Students must drive no more than 4 consecutive hours without a 30 minutes break, nor more than 8 hours in a 24-hour period.Students may NOT drive between midnight and 6 am unless given authorization by the organization advisor or department head.Students must follow all guidelines for passenger capacity in vehicles (as detailed in the policy).

UNT Policy 07.001 Student TravelPossession or consumption of alcohol is prohibited by the person(s) responsible for operating a motor vehicle at any point until the final destination for the day is reached.Possession or consumption of illegal drugs is prohibited during all travel covered under this policy.

13. UNT Policy 07.001 Student TravelPossession or transportation of weapons during all travel covered by this policy is prohibited, unless authorized by the VP for Student Affairs and Risk Management Services.Student organizations must obtain written approval for the travel from its organization advisor or the department head.See UNT Policy 07.001 for additional requirements.

14. HealthEnsure you pack any necessary prescriptions and over-the-counter medications you may need during the trip.Keep medication in original containers.If you have any special medical needs (such as allergies, diabetes, or another condition), it is a good idea to use a medical bracelet, necklace, or medical ID on your smartphone.Make sure you have a thorough understanding of your health insurance and bring documentation.

Travel Emergency PlanFill out the Emergency Travel Plan template with the applicable information.Identify an emergency contact for your trip who you will stay in contact periodically during the trip.Provide your emergency contact your itinerary and a copy of your emergency plan.Establish a daily check-in time with your contact.

16. Protect Your InformationDo not share your full name, contact information, itinerary, or accommodation details with anyone unless absolutely necessary.Keep photocopies of all important travel documents. Keep copies...With you.In the cloud.With your emergency contact.

Be Situationally AwarePay attention to what is happening around you – take your eyes off your phone and keep your ears clear.Remove yourself from situations you feel uncomfortable in.Be cautious around roadways; pedestrians do not always have the right-of-way.Be suspicious of individuals who are too nice or overly interested in you.Do not accept food or drink from strangers.Use the buddy system whenever possible to ensure no one is ever alone.Pay attention to signage and posted warnings.

Be Smart with Social Media and Digital SafetyBe mindful of the information you are placing online.Do not post photos or videos which include images of your boarding passes or other travel documentation.Be cautious when using unsecure or public Wi-Fi networks.Do NOT take selfies in dangerous places or during hazardous situations (i.e. while driving or on a cliff/overhang).
