To explain Christian beliefs about judgement To reflect on how this affects the way Christians live their life
What will happen?
What are the 4 last things?Slide2
The Four Last Things: death, judgement, heaven, hell
Write out what happens after death in order. What do you think God will judge you on? S&C* How important will it be to have had faith in God in your life?A. A general
final judgment of humanity as a whole, and on your society, that you were part of.
B. Your own personal, individual judgment, on how you lived your life, and accepted/ rejected God. You learn if you will enter heaven, or hell.
C. Your
physical death
: the separation of your soul from your mortal body, which dies.
D. A
period of waiting
: being purified from your sins in purgatory, in preparation for being with God.
E. The
resurrection of your body
, as a new body, and the beginning of a new, eternal resurrected life in heaven.
F. The destruction of hell, and everybody who is there. Only heaven is left.
What order do you think these events happen in?
Unforgiven sins
Secret thoughts
Things you didn’t do, despite talents, grace and inspiration to do themSlide3

WhaT ARE WE JUDGED ON
did you help a stranger?Did you give someone things they need to survive?Did you befriend someone who needed to talk? Were you there, when someone was suffering and unable to help themselves? In the parable of the Sheep and the Goats, Jesus describes the final judgement, when he sits as King over all mankind. What does he praise those that he lets into his kingdom, for?
When Jesus comes in glory to judge all the people, he will separate them into... and .....
To the sheep,
Jesus will say “Come and inherit my Kingdom, because you…. (did what?) When you did this to the least of my brethren,
you were doing it to me.
To the goats
, Jesus will say,
“Depart from me,
into darkness and weeping, because you did not...
Stick in the sheet
Summarise
the story, using the phrases
What the sheep didWhy Jesus rewards themWhat the goats didn’t do
Why they get sent to hellS&C* Give examples of what we should do for others, so as to enter Jesus’ kingdom.Slide5
The Final Judgement Slide6
The general final judgment of humanity will judge everyone based on the society they were part of:
If you were born in a difficult time (war, famine, a time when religion was forbidden) this will be taken into account – your sins lessenedIf you helped to make society more sinful for others eg you supported abortion or helped make pornography more available/ acceptable – you will be judged on this.Explain the two kinds of judgement.
Give examples of how someone might make society more sinful for other people.S&C* Is it fair to judge people depending on how difficult life around them was? Are we in a “sinful” society??
Campaigned / supported sinful things
abortion, euthanasia, pornography, drugs, promiscuity
Help make sinful things available
to others
eg
run a gambling business, sell arms/ weapons
Behave in ways that corrupt other people:
swearing, lying, trolling, sexting
etcSlide7
The Judgment of the Dead (Rev 20:11)
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from His presence. The
sea, death & the underworld gave up the dead that were in them .And I
saw all the dead, great and small
, standing before the
throne.
And books were opened, including the Book of Life.
Each person was judged
according to what they had done as
recorded in the books.
Then death and the underworld was thrown
into
the lake of fire.
The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the
book of life was
thrown into the lake of fire
