The cardiac cycle and pressure changes: Transcript

O Level Biology M Shah Todays lesson Topic covered Transport in Humans Syllabus requirement ddescribe the structure and function of the heart in terms of muscular contraction and the working of the valves. Learning Outcomes. During diastole blood returning to the atria flows into the ventricles. Atrial systole transfers the remainder of the blood through the atrioventricular (AV) valves to the ventricles. Ventricular systole closes the AV valves and pumps the blood out through the semi lunar (SL) valves to the aorta and pulmonary artery. In diastole the higher pressure in the arteries closes the SL valves. The opening and closing of the AV and SL valves are responsible for the heart sounds heard with a stethoscope. . Guyton’s Models as an Example. Mean Arterial and Venous Pressure and Cardiac Output. If the compliance ratio is 19:1, for which cardiac output is the ratio of venous to arterial volume 19:1?. What is peripheral resistance at CO=0?. Theory, Techniques and Applications. Guy Amit. Advanced Research Seminar . May 2004. 2. Outline. Basic anatomy and physiology of the heart. Cardiac measurements and diagnosis. Origin and characteristics of heart sounds. Circuits of the Blood. There are 3 circuits:. Systemic Circulation. From the left ventricle to the aorta and on to the body. Back to the heart via the superior and inferior vena cava to the right atrium. AN OVERVIEW OF RECIPROCATING ENGINES. Spark-ignition (SI) engines. Compression-ignition (CI) engines. Compression ratio. In SI engines, the compression ratio is limited by . autoignition. . or . engine knock. MABP = CO x TPR. Mean Arterial Blood Pressure. MABP = CO x TPR. Mean Arterial Blood Pressure. Mean Arterial Blood Pressure. = Average blood pressure in an individual, the overall blood pressure within your body.. Dr. . Abdollahi. 4/25/2014. 1. Elective surgery should not be performed on patients with congestive heart failure unless optimally treated. The preoperative presence of congestive heart failure is associated with significant postoperative . Lecture 11.0 – Cardiovascular System Genalin Lagman Taguiam Lecturer Course Outcomes On completion of the week’s activity, the students should be able to identify the structures in a given diagram of the heart; Learning Objectives. Explain how the heart works in relation to the conduction system . Explain the cardiac cycle. Explain how the two systems are linked . How does the heart contract.......?. Heart is composed of cardiac muscle. Dr. . Aditya. . Jindal. 1/4/11. Introduction. Pulmonary artery and central venous catheter. Blood pressure. Cardiac output determination. ‘‘The same old Watson!
