NOTES

These posters have been designed in PowerPoint so you can amend them as you see fit

They can be printed out on a variety of sizes, including A4, A3 and Letter

They include a space for you to add how individuals can find out more, for instance from the Business Continuity team or their Line Manager

Please check each scenario works for your organisation. Amend it if it doesn’t: for example “icy weather” could become “broken air con” if that’s more suitable to your geographic location.

Remember, the idea of these posters isn’t to scare nor to offend. It’s to trigger every individual’s desire to understand their own role during an incident – even if that role is simply to let someone know they are safe before they go home!

When you’re happy with your

finalised

posters, consider saving them as PDF files (using File/Save As.) if you need to email them on in a format not easily amended.Slide2

What if…?

Your key supplier called to say they’d suffered a catastrophic network failure. They’ve no access to any information or systems for at least the nex

t week

. What would you do next? And what if it took a month to resolve this issue?

While it may be unlikely, there are many reasons why a seemingly excellent supplier may stop delivering with little or no notice. Perhaps due to,

for example, financial issues, the loss of a key supplier or their own or internal major incident. Right now, the cause isn’t as important as you being clear on your role and responsibilities if something untoward

did

happen.

You got to work one morning to find no one could log in to the network.

Remote email was also unavailable.

IT advise of “serious data corruption” and a “possible virus” incident. What would you do next?[And what if IT told you it could take up to 2 weeks to bring everything back, but they could prioritise some email/diary accounts to come back online in 3 days if advised which were most important?]While it may be unlikely, it could happen Right now, the cause isn’t as important as you being clear on your role and responsibilities if something untoward

did

happen.

What if…?Slide4

There was serious fire in your building overnight. What wasn’t affected by the fire itself is suffering smoke and water damage. Almost everything that wasn’t destroyed is sooty and soaked.

What

would you do next

?[And what if you were told it could take 2 weeks to clean up.]While it may be unlikely, this sort of impact

could

happen to us.

Perhaps due to, for example, flood, fire, crime, structural damage or environmental accident. Right now, the cause isn’t as important as you being clear on your role and responsibilities if something untoward did happen.

What if…?Slide5

Particularly severe weather hit this area unexpectedly. Nearly half the staff were unable to get into work, and half of those had no utilities at home for several days.

What

would you do next

?[And what if this wasn’t resolved for the next 2 weeks?]While it may be unlikely, there are many reasons why a lack of available staff could happen, perhaps due to,

for example,

a severe virus, school closures, or temporarily having to work in a different location. Right now, the cause isn’t as important as you being clear on your role and responsibilities if something untoward did happen.

What if…?Slide6

An

explosion occurred

at the shopping mall closest to this building at lunchtime. You were still in the office, but several of your colleagues had made the trip there at lunchtime.

What would you do next? While it may be unlikely, there are many reasons why you need to account for the safety of your team and know how to report that information usefully within the organisation. Right now, the cause isn’t as important as you being clear on your role and responsibilities if something untoward

did

happen.

Schools have been ordered to close because of an outbreak of a very serious virus mostly affecting children. Additionally, parents of children have been advised to stay home for 48 hours in the hopes of stalling it’s spread.

What

would you do next?

While it may be unlikely, there are many reasons why a volume of staff may be unavailable for a short period without notice. Perhaps due to, for example, severe weather, or an unexpected local incident

. Right now, the cause isn’t as important as you being clear on your role and responsibilities if something untoward

did

happen. For more information contact:
