“Sweet Pea is United Star”

ALEX FERGUSON hailed his 'Little Pea' as a natural for popping in goals after a dramatic victory in Valencia. “The Sun” From NEIL CUSTIS in Valencia. Published: 30 Sep 2010Slide2

Javier Hernandez, on as a late sub, netted an 85th-minute winner for his first competitive goal for Manchester United. And boss Fergie said: "When he takes a chance it is like shelling peas to him. It is so natural to him. He is a natural finisher. "But he is young and needs to build on his strength, which he has been doing in the gym. "I brought him on tonight because I thought his pace would cause them problems."

The 22-year-old Mexican - also known as Chicharito, or "Little Pea", because of his father's green eyes - made a £7million switch from Guadalajara in the summer. The striker netted in United's Community Shield victory over Chelsea. He came on after 77 minutes last night and opened his competitive account with a smart left-foot finish. That gave United only their second win in 19 trips to Spain and put them top of Champions League Group C. Hernandez said: "It was a great night. I am so happy about the goal but also it was important to get the win. "It is a dream come true for me. I always used to watch the Champions League when I was back home in Mexico." Slide3

Another piece of good news for United was that injury-plagued Rio Ferdinand came through his first major test. Fergie added: "Rio did very well. It was his first really big match in five months and I was pleased with that. "Rio had a game against Rangers and Scunthorpe but this was a real game." Ferdinand said: "To play 90 minutes is fantastic." Slide4
