3. Create a covering letter

4. Covering letterWhen you apply for a job and send your CV- you also need to include a covering letter.A good cover letter goes a long way to ensuring you get to the interview stage. Make sure you put the same time and effort into a cover letter as you do into creating a CV.A cover letter should make it clear which job the CV is for and include the job title and any reference that has been given for it. Basically, a cover letter should help your potential employer to direct your application appropriately. When your CV is sent in, the professional courtesy of sending it with a cover letter is standard practise.

5. Mr Gibbison’s ‘cover letter’ example: Friday 3rd June 2016 (edit to current day)Assistant Headteacher (identify the job you are applying for….*you should have already done this on your CV** e.g. PE teacher, lifeguard, coach, receptionist at a sports centre)Dear Joe Bloggs (create a name to write too), Working as a teacher in a school is the most rewarding, yet challenging job. The role is something that I personally relish, as the impact on staff, students and families is immeasurable. It takes a calm, level headed character in all situations, qualities I feel I possess. Dealing with the emotional stress of parents, staff and students at short notice is a challenge I have responded to successfully, devising creative solutions to solve often complex pastoral and organisational issues.Throughout all lesson observations, I have consistently been regarded as a good teacher. I do this through a consistent, organised and reflective approach and have used this to shape my own style of leadership.Whatever I choose to do in my life, I want it to be a success and will go above and beyond to ensure that this happens. I hope this shows through my work ethic that I display on a daily basis aiming to make a difference to students lives. This new job will extend that impact through other staff. In previous jobs, I have used data to continually guide decisions that have been made. Over the previous two academic years, my team has consistently had the best ………………. and the fewest ………………….. Currently, we are continuing this trend The desire to be the best and raise standards has been the driving force throughout. This has been achieved by following 3 principles; RESPECT, ORGANISATION and COMMUNICATION.
