3. Ladder assembly design statusThe assembly of Origami part was almost established and verified by the this summer 2 Origami module assembly at Kavli IPMU. We can separatly discuss the assembly and wire-bonding issues.Naïve idea of FW and BW part assembly was shown in the end of last year. But these are insufficient consideration at the wire-bonding and gluing, slanting. In this time, some special jigs for wire-bonding and gluing and slanting are prepared.3

4. Forward part and backward part assembly4

5. Procedure1: Placing the stopper for the DSSD5

6. Procedure2: Placing DSSD w/ the the stopper6Rough alignment with edge of DSSD. After the alignment, DSSD is vacuum chucked.

7. Procedure3:Remove the stopper7

8. Procedure4:Placing the PAs on the PA-jigs.Dispensing glue.8PAs are aligned by the pins and holes on the PA and the jigs. The method of dispensing glue is masking method.Small pinsSmall pins

9. Procedure5: Gluing the PAs9We can observe the bonding pads on the PA with microscope while gluing.

10. Procedure6:Removing the PA-jig10Before complete curing( ~1 hour after ), the PA-jig will be removed. The glue will automatically spread without any movement of PAs.

11. Procedure7: Placing the assembly- bench on the rib-jig11

12. Procedure8: Placing the DSSD(-z)12We can parallelize the procedure1~6 with plural set of jigs.

13. Procedure9: Placing the DSSD(CE)13We can parallelize the procedure1~6 with plural set of jigs.

14. Procedure10: Placing the DSSD(+z)14We can parallelize the procedure1~6 with plural set of jigs.

15. Procedure11: Placing the trapezoidal DSSD and the FW hybrid board15The part where the trapezoidal DSSD and the FW Hybrid are placed is removable from rib-jig. It has the vacuum chucking holes both the DSSD and the hybrid, separately.

16. Procedure12: Placing the BW DSSD(rectangle) and the hybrid board16The part where the rectangle DSSD and the BW Hybrid are placed is removable from rib-jig. It has the vacuum chucking holes both the DSSD and the hybrid, separately.

17. Procedure13: Placing the PE2(FW and BW)17In this figure, PE is aligned by hand. It may be better to make alignment holes as same as that of PA. In that case, PE should be aligned on the PE-jigs followed slides.

18. Procedure14: Placing the PE2-jig (FW and BW)18PE2-jig has vacuum chucking holes. PE2 can be picked up with keeping alignment. Wire bonding pads on the APV25 side can be seen with microscope from top of the jigs while picking up the PE2. Although it become difficult design, it is better to make window to observe the pads on the DSSD side.

19. Procedure15: Dispensing glue on the PE2(FW and BW)19Dispensing glue is done by masking method. As I mentioned, the alignment of PE2 should be done on the jig with pins and holes on the PE2 and PE2-jig.

20. Procedure16: Gluing the PE2(FW and BW)20Wire bonding pads can be seen with microscope from top of the jigs while picking up the PE2.

21. Procedure17:Removing the PE2-jig(FW and BW)21

22. Procedure18:Lifting the assembly-bench to pick up the FW and BW part22Where the place of FW and BW DSSD are sitting parts can be removable from the rib-jig. There are groove to contain the vacuum tube on the rib-jig. Once we should lift up the assembly-bench to remove the sitting parts

23. Procedure19: Wire bonding the PE2 and the DSSD(FW and BW)23DSSD and hybrid board and PE2 are picked up on the part. These are moved to the wire-bonder and wire bonded.

24. Procedure20:Placing back the FW and BW on the assembly-bench.24Placing back with reverse procedure.

25. Procedure21: Placing the pick-up-jig(FW and BW)25Both pick-up-jig have the vacuum chucking holes for the DSSD and the hybrid. There are grooves to absorb the height difference of PE ,connector and hybrid.

26. Procedure22: Flipping the jigs26There are grooves to absorb the height difference of bonding wire and connector.

27. Procedure23: Placing PE1(FW and BW) 27As I mentioned, the alignment of PE should be done on the jig with pins and holes on the PE1 and PE1-jig.

28. Procedure24: Placing PE1-jig(FW and BW)28PE1-jigs are used to pick up the PE1.Although it become much difficult design since PE1 is too small, it is better to make window to observe the pads on the DSSD side.

29. Procedure25:Dispensing glue on the PE1(FW and BW)29Dispensing with masking method.

30. Procedure26: Gluing the PE1(FW and BW)30

31. Procedure27:Wire bonding the PE131After removing PE1-jig and moving to the bonding machine, wire-bonding is done.

32. Procedure28:Placing back the FW part32Placing back with reverse procedure.

33. Procedure29:Removing the FW pick-up-jig33

34. Procedure30: Placing the slant-jig34The slant-jig has the gonio stage to slant the torapezoidal DSSD.Also the slant-jig has the screws to fix the hybrid.

35. Procedure31:Vacuum chucking the trapezoidal DSSD with the slant-jig35

36. Procedure32:Fixing the hybrid board to the slant-jig36The DSSD are fixed with vacuum chucking. On the other hand, PEs and hybrid board are floating. We can bend the PEs according to the curvature of the jig. The slanted hybrid board is fixed by the screws on the slant-jig.

37. Procedure33:Lifting the slant-jig37I am supposing to use the Z-stage to lift the slant-jig.

38. Procedure34: Origami part assembly38Origami part assemblies can be started parallel after this procedure .

39. Procedure35:Slanting the gonio stage to the slant angle of the ladder39

40. Procedure36: Placing rib-sitting-jig on the rib-jig40Rib-sitting-jig

41. Procedure37:Placing the rib. Dispensing glue on the rib.41The alignment of rib(+ mounting block) is determined as same as the way of ladder mounting on the end-ring.

42. Procedure38: Placing the pins on the rib-jig42

43. Procedure39: Placing the slant-jig on the rib-jig.43

44. Procedure40: Gluing the DSSD and the rib44

45. Procedure41: Removing slant-jig45

46. Procedure42:Placing the pins46

47. Procedure43: Dispensing glue on the rib47

48. Procedure44: Placing the BW part48

49. Procedure45: Gluing the BW part49

50. Procedure46:Removing the pick-up jig(BW)50Complete FW and BW assembly. Then after, combining Origami part

51. Current status51

52. Improved PA-bent-jig52We modified the jigs thatthe Z stroke range of PA-bend-jig was expanded from ~3mm to ~6mm.In addition, We’ll attach the gonio stage in the jig. => Aiming to glue the PAs with uniform flatness.PA-bend-jigs in Kavli IPMU has a difficulty of short stroke alogn with the Z-axis compared with the Vienna’s one.

53. New PA-jig53Old PA-jigNew PA-jigs

54. Wire-bonding54We’ll have the wire-bonding training with an invited engineer of the bonder company on 16th and 17th Oct.This is the 1st training after the our first assembly. I am expecting a lot of question and problem arising from 1st assembly will be answered and solved.Efficient way to brush up our skill. We’ll try the small wedge ”45ABT-W-2015-3/4-C” by SPT.45ABT-W-2015-3/4-CFP45A-WH-2025-3/4-C H BFH BF3040

55. Rough scheduleWe’ll start trial assembly of FW and BW part w/ mock up components. - Jigs will be delivered in Oct. - Establish the assembly by end of Nov. at latest. We’ll start trial assembly of full ladder in L6 w/ mock up components - Hopefully, it will be started in Dec. - Some jigs should be prepared. f.e. OrigamiPCB-jig for -z, CE and +z. Airex-jig and so on. - Establish the assembly by end of Jan. next year. We need help by Tohoku Univ., KEK and Korean colleagues. 1st trial of full ladder assembly may take about 1 month in total. 55

56. SummaryMuch more realistic FW and BW assembly procedureThe verification is need and should finish end of Nov. After the verification, trial assembly of full ladder(mock up) will be start soon. 56
