(READ)-A Jungian Circumambulation of Art & Therapy: Ornithology for the Birds: Transcript
Originator innovator activist and educator Emeritus Professor Michael Edwards was central to the international evolution of art therapy These previously unpublished papers are the most substantial written record of his thinking Highly praised by leading figures in art psychotherapy Professor Shaun McNiff wrote the ideas have wings that carry the reader inside to the marrow of art The book will appeal to artists looking for a threshold into the arts in therapy Rejection of reductionism and fundamentalism made Edwards a champion of soul a challenger of simple mindedness Widely honoured as an art therapist educator supervisor and Jungian analyst this book appropriately reflects Edwards achievements The humour wisdom and idiosyncrasy of the writer has been preserved in the careful editing by Learmonth Huckvale of these transcribed talks The book is beautifully illustrated with some of Edwards favourite artworks the Talepieces from Thomas Bewicks Birds. Native Hawaiian Birds Project 1 By Jordan and Kako http://www.bird- friends.com/pics/ papane Purpose of Our Experiment Yoga postures, meditation and art therapy-based techniques are combined in this innovative approach structured around targeting a specific treatment goal for each therapeutic session. For each goal, a mudra (hand position) meditation, yoga pose and art directive are recommended to embody the chosen intention. Bird flight has always intrigued mankind. This book provides an up to date account of our existing knowledge on the subject, as well as offering new insights and challenging some established views.A brief history of the science of flight introduces the basic physical principles governing aerial locomotion. A treatment of flight-related functional morphology concentrates on the difference in shape of the arm and hand part of the wings, on the structure and function of tails, and on the shape of the body. The anatomy and mechanical properties of feathers receive special attention. Aerodynamic principles used by birds are explained in theory by simply applying Newton\'s laws, and in practice by showing the direction and velocity of the attached flow around an arm wing cross section and of the leading edge vortex flow above a hand wing. The Archaeopteryx fossils remain crucial in our understanding of the evolution of bird flight despite the recent discovery of a range of well-preserved ancient birds.A novel insight into the interactions between wings and air challenges established theories relating to the origin of bird flight. Take-off, flapping flight, gliding and landing are the basic ingredients of bird flight, and birds use a variety of flight styles from hovering to soaring. Flight muscles consisting of mosaics of specialized fibers are the engines that generate the force required to keep the wings and tail in the gliding configuration and perform work during flapping motion. The energy required to fly can be estimated or measured directly, and a comparison of empirical results provides insights into the trend in metabolic costs of flight of birds varying in shape and mass from hummingbirds to albatrosses. In The Racial Complex: A Jungian Perspective on Culture and Race, Fanny Brewster revisits and examines Jung\'s classical writing on the theory of complexes, relating it directly to race in modern society. In this groundbreaking exploration, Brewster deepens Jung\'s minimalist writing regarding the cultural complexes of American blacks and whites by identifying and re-defining a psychological complex related to ethnicity.Original and insightful, this book provides a close reading of Jung\'s complexes theory with an Africanist perspective on raciality and white/black racial relationships. Brewster explores how racial complexes influence personality development, cultural behavior and social and political status, and how they impact contemporary American racial relations. She also investigates aspects of the racial complex including archetypal shadow as core, constellations and their expression, and cultural trauma in the African diaspora. The book concludes with a discussion of racial complexes as a continuous psychological state and how to move towards personal, cultural and collective healing. Analyzing Jung\'s work with a renewed lens, and providing fresh comparisons to other literature and films, including Get Out, Brewster extends Jung\'s work to become more inclusive of culture and ethnicity, addressing issues which have been left previously unexamined in psychoanalytic thought.Due to its interdisciplinary nature, this book will be of great importance to academics and students of Jungian and post-Jungian studies, sociology, politics, history of race, African American studies and African diaspora studies. As this book discusses Jung\'s complexes theory in a new light, it will be of immense interest to Jungian analysts and analytical psychologists in practice and in training.
