Updated: August 12, 2015 05:41 IST Heritage village beckons E fforts are on to obtain UNESCO Heritage tag for the temple village of Aranmula located on the banks of the Pampa. The Aranmula Heritage Vill age Trust comprising a group of prominent citizens have floated the Heritage Village Project with the aim of preserving and protecting the rich cultural heritage of Aranmula. A 40 - member team attached to the Amrita University has conducted a detailed surv ey to identify the unique features of the 51 hamlets (‘kara’) in and around this temple village. The survey was guided by Viva Kirmani, Bangalore Social Service Society director, and Rahul Goswami, former UNESCO Heritage Department official, according to Kummanam Rajashekharan who is the brain behind the project. Gandhi Peace Foundation chairman P. Gopinathan Nair; Swami Golokananda, senior monk attached to Sri Ramakrishna Mission; Ma Gurupoornimamayi of Kidangannur Vijayananda Ashram, are the patrons of the trust. C.V. Anandabose, Central Warehousing Corporation chairman; Sugathakumari, poet; Kaanayi Kunhiraman, sculptor; Suresh Gopi, Menaka Suresh; actors; Govind Bharathan, senior lawyer at the Kerala High Court; Thomas P. Thomas, academic; R.S. Nair and Rajan Nair, industrialists; are the director board members. Mr. Rajashekharan told The Hindu that the trust was in the process of taking over a school in Aranmula for developing it into a heritage school that gives equal attention to the physical, emotio nal, and intellectual development of children. Heritage museum Setting up a Heritage Museum, Heritage Study Centre, and a Heritage University in Aranmula are the next priorities of the Trust, said Mr. Rajashekharan. The trust will promote organic farmin g, yoga, ayurveda, music, hygienic living, family values, social ethics, nature worship, art, religious tolerance, etc, he said. He said the trust envisaged development of Aranmula into a sustainable heritage village in a phased manner. The team is preparing a master plan for submitting it to UNESCO, he adds A Heritage Museum, Heritage Study Centre, and a Heritage University in Ar anmula are on the anvil.
