Aphrodisiacs can be categorized according to their mode of action into three groups:Tribulusterrestris, Withaniasomnifera,Eurycoma longifolia, Avena sativa, Ginko biloba, *Corresponding author: e-mail: neelesh_brncop@rediffmail.com Fadogia agrestisFadogia agrestisestis-D-apiofuranosyl-(1í,6í)--D-glucopyra-noside] and acetophenone-2-O--D-glucopyra-noside, along with five known compounds, -mor-roniside, sweroside, diderroside, daucosterol and -sitosterol. Their structures were elucidated by 1Dand 2D NMR analysis, UVñVis and ESIñMS spec-troscopy. Conclusion ñ It was concluded that thestudy of the chemical composition of Chionevenosa(SW.) URBAN var. venosahas revealed thepresence of three acetophenones hitherto unknownin plants, three iridoids and two well-known triter-penes. These results not only enhance the knowl-edge of a traditionally used medicinal plant but alsocontribute to the aphrodisiac potential of the plant(13). Montanoa tomentosaCihuapatli, the Mexican zoapatle (Montanoatomentosa) has an extensive ethnomedical history ofuse as a traditional remedy for reproductive impair-ments. Experimental study ñ Copulatory behavior ofsexually active male rats receiving doses of 38, 75and 150 mg/kg of the aqueous crude extract of M.tomentosa, was assessed. In addition, it was evaluat-ed the effect of a 75-mg/kg dose of the extract onmales with anesthetization of the genital area and onsexual behavior of sexually inactive male rats (non-copulators). Constituents ñ The exact constituentshave to be discovered. Conclusion ñ The study pro-vides evidence that the aqueous crude extract of M.tomentosais a potent stimulator of sexual behavior, particularly of sexual arousal in male rats, and that itpromotes the expression of masculine sexual behav-ior in previously sexually inactive animals. On thesebases, this extract can be considered to possessaphrodisiac properties (14).
