Fungus gnats like places with moist, rich soil

They eat the things that make the soil rich – peat moss, dead leaves,…

They also eat the roots of plants – especially bulbs, chrysanthemums and seedlings

Food & HabitatSlide4

Moist Soil –

W

e will only water when the plants are bone dry

Rich Soil –

We will add sand to the soil before planting

Eating Dead Leaves –

We will remove all dead leaves from plants and from the soil

So how can we get rid of them?Slide5

Eating Roots –

We will put potato pieces on the soil, and change them every 2 or 3 days

Adults –

We are using glue strips to trap and kill them

So how can we get rid of them?Slide6

Diatomaceous Earth -

So how can we get rid of them?Slide7

Diatomaceous Earth -

This looks like a powder, but is made up of small sharp pieces

It dries out insects and gives them ‘cuts’ which helps to kill them more quickly

It is very safe

for people!

Ms. Carew will apply this when needed

So how can we get rid of them?
