We’re now over the hump of Club Championship races. 10 have been completed and only 8 remain! The next 8 are slightly more spread out, if you’ve not taken part in one yet, come along for a try — list is on the back page — it’s great fun and a great team atmos- phere! Happy Running! Ali Nuttall BDRC Chairman Hi Guys! Apologies for my tardiness with this latest newsletter. Too many races, too much work and not enough time — as ever!! Here you will find brief race reports for the many many races you have all been part of in April and May. (There were- n’t many in April hence the joint newsletter) I will endeavour to get started on the July newsletter ASAP — if you have raced in June please can you email me a Brief race review? That would be really helpful, especially given I’ve not attended all races! The Chicken Run has now taken place and was a great success — THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR TIME AND SUP- PORT. And thank you for your patience when a couple of the sessions had to be rearranged for leaflet dropping etc. There will be a review in the next newsletter. We’ve had some new mem- bers in April and May — May / June Update A Coventry Way — 40 mile Ultra, 6th April 2014 Steve Snow kicked off April’s races with his first Ultra - Marathon — a 40 mile race in the countryside around Coventry. Well done Steve — an awesome time of 8hours 3mins. London Marathon, 13th April Three Brackley runners headed into the big city for the 2014 Virgin London Marathon. David Bowen won the ballot for the Club’s place in the marathon, Sue Torrance raced on a Good For Age place and Nicola Crookes ran on a Char- ity place, fundraising for MacMillan Nurses. Big congratulations to Nicola for raising an amazing £3,000 for Macmillan! Many from the club spent the morn- ing of 13th April glued to the London Marathon Tracking App, eagerly stalking David, Nicola and Sue to track their progress and cheer them over the line from afar. David Bowen 3.14.15 Nicola Crookes 4.06.27, Sue Torrance 4.09.28. Well Done all! Flitwick 10K, 19th April On 19th April a few Brackley runners headed over towards Milton Keynes to compete in the Flitwick 10k. Nevertheless some great times Toby Cartwright 38.08, Simon Tappenden 40.32, Eoin Tweedale 41.06, Sue Tor- rance 43.24, A big club - congratulations to Freya Cartwright, age 5, who com- pleted the Junior Fun Run in 7.35! Silverstone 10k, Club Championship Race, 7th May In a busy week for racing, following Monday’s Weston 5, 17 Brackley Runner’s took the short trip to Silverstone to race in the 10k. In the Team stakes (top 4 runners count) Brack- ley placed 21st out of 42 teams.... Not too bad considering the calibre of the field! Rugby 6, Club Championship Race, 14th May A testing but enjoyable course on a lovely hot evening in May... 8 intrepid Brackley explores took the trip over to Rugby to run on freshly tarmac’d roads! Mark Woodus 36.17, Toby Cartwright 39.41, Matt Spenceley 42.34, Chris Noble 44.03, Simon Tappenden 45.02, Sue Torrance 45.03, Jayne Cooper 46.17, Lorna Spenceley 46.38 Blisworth Friday 5, Club Championship Race, 23rd May After a day of torrential rain, the clouds parted and the sun shone just in time for a lovely evening 5 miler... The perfect way to start a Bank Holiday Weekend! Steve Snow 31.50, Gareth Bowden 32.52, Tony Chapman 34.07, Chris Noble 35.01, Ian Marriott 35.45, Simon Tappenden 37.10, Sue Torrance 37.21, Jayne Cooper 39.08, Amanda Williams 42.19, Steve Berry 43.59 Tewkesbury Half Marathon, 25th May Well done to Sue Torrance who travelled to Tewkesbury for the half marathon and completed in a great time of 1.48 Cotswold Hilly 100, Sunday 18th May At 3.15am on Sunday 18th May a number of bouncy and excited Brackley and District runners gathered in the carpark of the Leisure Centre ready to set out for the Cotswold Hilly 100 relay race. Sue and Lorna kick started proceedings at 5am from Stratford - Upon - Avon town centre for the first of 10, 10 mile legs. Sue Torrance came in with what would turn out to be the top Brackley Lady time of 1.16 and handed over to Matt Spenceley. Following close on Sue’s tail was Lorna Spenceley with a mas- sive 10 mile PB of 1.17. Lorna handed over to ET, who had scrambled at the last minute to take Simon’s place following a slight logistical mishap. Matt came in the hilliest section of the course in 1.22 and ET followed with a time of 1.33. Matt handed over to Darren Long who ran a 1.38 on a slightly longer than 10 mile route, his counter part David Watts managed to claw 2 minutes back into Team 2’s deficit with a 1.36. Dawn took over from Dazza as the sun rose high up into the sky — the hottest day of the year so far was to make things difficult for the remaining run- ners. Dawn came in with a time of 1.28 and Keely Weir, having taken the baton from David came in with a fab 1.43. Dawn handed over to Ann Crosby - Merchant who ran a 1.32 keeping Team 1 ahead as Simon Tappenden ran a great 1.21 following his hand over from Keely. The bike support provided by Woody and Toby (and Matt/Lorna for a leg) took a well deserved rest as Nick Cummins took to his leg, which he completed in a time of 1.27 — awesome in the hottest part of the day. Julie Waller took over from Simon and battled through 10 miles of the heat and hills to come in at 2.00. Nicola Crooks had taken the next leg from Nick and still in the heat of early af- ternoon gritted her teeth to run through knee pain and come in with a 1.44. Helen Brawn took over from Julie and ran a 1.40, fantastic given the intense heat & running out of water (still sorry!) The speedy boys took over on Leg 8. Mark Woodus took the baton from Nicola and smashed his 10 miles in 1.05 before handing over to Suz Meacock. Meanwhile David Bowen took over from Helen and ran a great 1.10 before handing over to Ali Nuttall. On possibly the 2nd hilliest leg of the whole race (let’s face it... They were all pretty mad!) Suz ran a fantastic 1.34 and Nutty came in with a 1.31. The final leg was run in 1.15 by Woody having already covered 50 miles on the bike and Toby came in with a 1.22 following his ear- lier 40 miles on the bike. The Cotswold Hilly 100 was a fantastic event for Brackley. Not only did we all have a great time and showed awesome teamwork and camaraderie but it was noted by the organiser that we were the loudest and most supportive running club to have ever competed in the event — WELL DONE ALL!!!!!!!! The day started at around 2am and didn’t end until about 9pm..... It wasn’t just running 10 miles. It was running 10 miles in a massive event where everything took it out of you. All 20 runners showed great grit and determination and I think its safe to say (& most of you have) that we were all INCREDIBLY PROUD TO BE TEAM BRACKLEY!!! So..... Who’s up for it next year??????
