What is i3 Recording?
“Session Recording Protocol” (SIPREC)Provides a “Real Time Streaming Protocol” (RSTP) interfaceThe Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) is a network control protocol designed for use in entertainment and communications systems to control streaming media servers. The protocol is used for establishing and controlling media sessions between end points.

Current Environment(in the absence of an i3 network or ratified standard)
Text can function via “Text Telephone” (TTY) with legacy infrastructure
Text can function via “Hypertext Transfer Protocol” (HTTP) with modern infrastructure
Supports “Short Messaging Service” (SMS), not “Multimedia Messaging Service” (MMS)
Should be functional with standard wireless carriers
SMS from “Covered Carriers” (other than traditional cell phone messaging) must be capable of addressing a phone number
Mark Enfield - WesTek MarketingSlide5
Advantages
Favorable in situations such as domestic violence or home invasionImproved communications method for the handicapped
Able to better communicate when circuits are overloaded
Able to better communicate in marginal coverage areas
Mark Enfield - WesTek MarketingSlide6
Limitations
Some latency may be encounteredMessage interpretation issues
Missing nuance of voice communication
Associated training and liability issues

Future i3 Environment Recording(based on current non-ratified standard)
In an i3 environment this will be “Session Initiated Protocol” (SIP) and “Session Recording Protocol” (SIPREC), which is a SIP-based protocol for controlling a session (media) recorder.
The current non-ratified instant messaging standard is “Message Session Relay Protocol” (MSRP) over SIP.
Future expansion may include “Extensible Message and Presence Protocol” (XMPP) based on “Extensible Markup Language” (XML), which takes future growth into consideration. In these cases the origination may be XMPP, but will be interworked to MSRP prior to ESInet presentation.
Full multimedia implementation and support is planned.
