Since 2010, the number of Flexible Display publications increased exponentially each year; Filings doubled from 2012 to 2013 and have gone up more than 300% since 2013

Samsung and LG have the most publications for flexible displays, followed by SEL and Creator Technology.

The remaining companies in the top 20 are a mix of manufacturers; ITRI is a notable exception as it is a not-for- profit research firm

When looking in the aggregate, flexible display patents/publications have risen sharply in the past 18 months; Electronic Device and Display component filings have also increased significantly, especially from 2013 to 2014/15

Samsung and LG appear in the top four for each category, while some companies appear in only one category; Nokia and Sharp have mostly display component publications, while Apple and Blackberry have mostly device specific publications; SEL and Creator Technology (3rd

and 4th most publications overall) finished off the top 4 companies with display panel publications

Samsung, SEL, Creator Technology, Philips, and Sony concentrated their filings on display panels, while LG, Nokia, Apple, and Blackberry had more patents filed on the

electronic devices that use the displays themselves

In the second tier of companies, ITRI, Toshiba, Universal Display, Au Optronics, and Boe Technology had the majority of filings centered on the display panel;

Pantech and Motorola were predominately device related patents, while Kodak and Alien Technology had most of their filings on the display components; As a point of interest, ITRI and Toshiba have the most diversity among the 3 patent types

Samsung, LG, SEL, Nokia, Apple, and Universal Display have all drastically increased their flexible display filings in the past 18 months; Creator Technology, Philips Electronics, Pantech, and Fujifilm are the only companies among the top 15 to decrease their number of publications in 2014/2015

Samsung has filed 22% of the overall publications for flexible displays; When Samsung and LG are combined, they have more publications in 2014/2015 than all other companies combined leading the industry
