Slang is a type of language consisting of words and phrases that are regarded as very informal, are more common in speech than in writing, and are typically restricted to a particular context or group of people. Slang is often taken from social media as a sign of social awareness and shared knowledge of popular culture. This particular branch of slang has become more prevalent since the beginning of the 21 st century as a result of the rise in popularity of social networking services, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
