Srila Prabhupada tells us why he is translating

Srimad Bhagavatam and introduces Lord Chaitanya, the ideal preacher of Srimad Bhagavatam. Then Sages give Suta Goswami a proper seat and ask him what is the essence of Dharma, the current shelter of religion etc.He answers and concludes that Srimad Bhagavatam is the current incarnation of God.They ask why, after writing all the Vedas Srila Vyasadeva wrote the Srimad Bhagavatam. This came from the meeting of Vyasa with Narada Muni.Deciding to tell the

Srimad Bhagavatam

to the Sages, Suta Goswami, begins with the antecedents, the birth of Maharaja Pariksit and the retiring of the Pandavas, but he also amplifies the conditions at the time of Maharaja Pariksit’s birth, such as the passing away of Bhismadeva. and returning to Maharaja’s birth he then describes the passing of Dhrtarastra and the Pandavas, and then much later how Maharaja Pariksit ruled and this led to his meeting Sukadeva Goswami.

Do you agree with this summary? You will have this as an essay question, and in the short answer questions.Slide10

Read, review, all the material in Module One: Preface through Chapter Three.

I am ashamed to come before you but I just had to say that your knowledge of Sastra is so wonderful that I had to catch you in this solitary place and tell you that you are wonderful, so respectable.Slide14

This time, this place, this ISKCON, what can we do for you? We are only cats looking at Kings, but do the Witches words have a ting and ring???

We can only give a general call, the evaluation for this diploma is really between you and Krsna, that’s all.Did you keep good association while you reviewed Module One?

Prioritize your readings, minimize things that you would like to have done?

Did you really do the cement-floor work at hand: Augment your

The questions are easy for Cantos One and Two, Freshman year of college, but Canto Three starts to get intense, doorway of

.Slide28

Why would we want to study this chapter? What does it add to our Bhakti-sastri

studies? It does give a wonderful discussion of the first question by the sages: What is the essence of Dharma.Dharma is the first in a list of four goals of human life. What are the other three? Which verse, which is cited

in NOI, gives a relation with all four of these? They have little bit different names in this verse. What are the names given there?

What is the answer to the first question by the Sages (Sanskrit and English, please!).

Two other Vedic principles are discussed: Jnana and v__________. Which verse declares that these are a rapid result of Bhakti?

The words

yayātmā

suprasīdati appear in 1.2-5&6. What do they mean?Slide29

1.2.6 – What are pravṛtti-mārga

and nivṛtti-mārga? Dharma is “that which_______ ____ _________”.1.2.10 – What does jīvasya tattva-jijñāsā mean? (Cited in NOI also)“One should satisfy the senses only in so much as required for s___-

As soon as the Kṛṣṇa sun is arisen within one’s heart, the darkness of materialistic speculations about the Absolute Truth and the living beings is at once cleared off.  What is the Bengali and English for the verse from CC that Srila Prabhupada is paraphrasing here?
