BOILWATERADVISORYGUIDELINESThisinformationwasadaptedfrommaterialsdevelopedbyCDCinCryptosporidiumandWater:APublicHealthHandbook.GeneralUsersofPublicWaterSuppliesDuringaboilwateradvisory: Donotconsumetapwaterthathasnotbeendisinfected,iceordrinksmadefromtapwaterthathasnotbeendisinfected,orrawfoodsrinsedwithtapwaterthathasnotbeendisinfected.Disinfectwaterbyboilingatarollingboilfor1minutefilteringthroughareverseosmosisfilter,anabsolute1micronfilterorafiltercertifiedunderNSFInternationalStandard#53foreithercystremovalorcystreduction.(UltravioletlighttreatmentofwaterisnoteffectiveagainstCryptosporidium,atnormallyusedlevels).Safealternativesourcesofpotablewaterincludebottled,treatedordistilledwater.Sanitizedishesbywashingindishwashingmachinesthathaveadrycycleorafinalrinsethatexceeds113EFfor20minutesor122EFfor5minutesor162EFfor1minute.Handwasheddishesshouldberinsedforoneminuteinadilutebleachsolution(1tablespoonpergallon)andallowedtoairdry.Itisokaytowashclothes.Providepetswithboiledwaterafteritiscooled.Uponrescindingofaboilwateradvisory: Flushhouseholdpipes/faucets:followthedirectionsofyourwaterutility(inthenewspaper,radio,ortelevision)or,asgeneralguidance,runcoldwaterfaucetsfor3minuteseachiftheyhavenotbeenusedinthelast24hours.lushhomeautomaticicemakers:makethreebatchesoficecubesanddiscardallthreebatches.Drainandrefillyourhotwaterheaterifsetatalowtemperature(below113EF).Runwatersoftenersthrougharegenerationcycle.Drainreservoirsintallbuildings.Flushdrinkingfountains:runcontinuouslyfor3minutesFlushwatercoolers:runcoolerswithdirectwaterconnectionsfor5minutesThisinformationwasadaptedfrommaterialsdevelopedbyCDCinCryptosporidiumandWater:APublicHealthHandbook.
