Masonry

•The building of structures from small individual units laid in and bound together by mortar

•Some common materials you

ca

find in this practice are brick, stone, marble, granite, travertine, limestone, cast stone, concrete blocks, glass blocks, stucco, tile and cob.

•Masonry is a highly durable form of construction, given that the mortar quality and workmanship is good.Slide2

•There are different types of masonry such as veneer masonry, dry set masonry, and brickwork.

•Veneer masonry: consists of usually clay-based bricks, installed on the sides of a structurally independent wall. When doing this type of masonry it is normally only for decoration, and not structure.

•Dry set masonry: in this practice the friction belong the interlocking masonry blocks provides a lot of strength on its own so it relies less on the strength of the mortar.Slide3

•Brickwork: solid brickwork is made of two of more sections of brick with the units running horizontally, joined to bricks running side to side along the wall.Slide4
