Through the sacraments we share in god’s life and love…

Sacrament- an effective sign given to us by Jesus Christ through which we share in God’s life.

The Sacraments are signs of God’s presence in our lives.

Jesus’ disciples got to experience the presence of God’s love because they could actually

see and touch Jesus. They symbolize that Jesus will always be present in our lives. The church recognized symbolic actions or rituals of Christ made present in our lives. Baptism- we celebrate being children of God.Penance- we receive God’s forgiveness.Sacraments bring about, what they represent are the most important celebrations of our lives. Slide3

The grace of the sacraments enables us to respond to God’s love

We recognize certain ways that Jesus’ life reveals God’s presence and the power of God’s love in each sacrament.

Each Sacrament gives us grace through the power of the Holy Spirit known as sanctifying grace.

enables us to love God, ourselves as God loves us, to love others as we love ourselves, and to live as God calls us to live.

Catechism states, “ The seven sacraments are the signs and instruments by which the Holy Spirit spreads the grace of Christ the head throughout the Church which is the body.”Slide4

ALL about the sacraments…

The Sacraments of Initiation:

Baptism- We are welcomed into the Church while becoming children of God

Confirmation- Sealed with the Holy Spirit

Eucharist- Receive the Bread of Life, Jesus ChristThe Sacraments of Healing:Penance and Reconciliation- We receive God’s love and forgiveness from turning to God with sorrow for sin.Anointing of the Sick- People who are sick and suffering are helped and comforted.Sacraments at the Service of Communion:Holy Orders- Baptized men are ordained to lead and serve the Church.Matrimony- Baptized men and women are strengthened for service by their faithful love.Slide5

As the church we are united in Christ and celebrate his paschal mystery

Jesus brought salvation to the world.

To live the meaning of Christ’s Paschal Mystery you have to live out the liturgy.

Liturgy is the official prayer of the church.

Sacraments make Catholics bond with Jesus stronger. Catechism states ‘bear fruit in those who receive them with the required dispositions. The Holy Spirit helps us to live a way with awareness of God in our lives Slide6

The sacraments sanctify us and build up the body of Christ

Sacraments have three purposes:

-They sanctify us by giving us the grace to live as Jesus’ disciple and members of the Church.

-We have to build up the Church as the Body of Christ, making the Church an effective sign of God’s Kingdom in the world.

-We have to offer worship to God, bringing us to him with thanks and praise and returning to us the grace we need to live as God’s people. There are three categories that group the Sacraments: Sacraments of Initiation- which reflects on birth and growth and the call us to common vocation of holiness and to the mission of evangelization -Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation Sacraments of Healing- which reflect on healing and we are strengthened to face and overcome the power of sin and sickness and also are called to restore our relationship with God -Penance (Reconciliation) and Anointing of the Sick Sacraments at the Service of Communion- which reflects on the mission and certain members of the Church are called by God to serve the Church through the particular vocations of marriage and ordained ministry -Holy Orders and Matrimony Slide7
