Because it is obtained from naturally occurring polymers it is not a synthetic fiber . Rayon is known by name viscose rayon and art silk in textile industry . It has high luster quality . PRODUCERS OF RAYONTrade names are used within the rayon industry to determine the type of rayon used. Viscose rayon was first introduced in Coventry England in 1905 by Courtaulds. Modal and Tencel are widely used forms of rayon produced by Lenzing AG which is based in northern Austria. Tencel, generic name lyocell, is made by a slightly different solvent recovery process, and is considered a different fiber by the US FTC.Slide3

Rayon drapes well, is easy to dye, and is highly absorbent. Many rayon products yellow with age and pill or form small balls and areas of roughness where the fabric is most heavily worn.
