The Light of TorahMessianic Congregation
Parasha Bereshit
Bereshit (Genesis) 1:1 – 6:7
Haftarah: Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 42:5 – 21
Brit Chadasha: several
Slide2Do not think that I have come to abolish 'the Torah' or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not a jot, not a tittle, will pass from the Torah until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:17-20
"So, the
Torah
is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good." Romans 7:12
"And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
Yehovah
made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the
stake."
Colossians 2:13
Slide3Alef Tavאת
In the Revelation of Yeshua HaMashiach to John we find 4 references to the Alef Tav, the first and last letters of the Hebrew Alef Bet; Rev. 1:8, 1:11, 21:6 and 22:13.
The translation reads “I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending.”
Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek Alphabet.
Slide4Messiah Yeshua is a Hebrew man and not a Greek man therefore He would have said “I am the Alef and the Tav, the beginning and the ending. He is the entire Hebrew Alef Bet from A to Z so to speak therefore He is ALL the Hebrew letters, ALL the Hebrew words. Jn. 1:1 confirms this understanding. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. He was in the beginning with Elohim.”
In its ancient form the Alef Tav would read “
strength of the covenant
.”
Slide5If Yeshua is all the Hebrew words, then we need to understand that:WORDS MEAN THINGS!
The Scripture narrative was written by Hebrews in a Hebrew culture.
Slide6Every stone, in every row of our sheep pen, represents a Torah portion. As we begin year six by studying each Torah portion we are adding to our enclosure which means our foundation is stronger.
Slide7The Renewed CovenantBrit Chadasha aka the New Testament
We are living in the age prior to the 2
nd
advent, the age of the “Renewed Covenant.” It’s important for us to understand that the “Renewed Covenant” isn’t “new,” rather it’s “renewed.”
Brit
= covenant
Chadash
= renewed. When the letter Hey,
ה
, is added to the end of the word it becomes feminine in gender,
Chadasha
. The feminine entity we are speaking to is the
bride
. The “Renewed Covenant” is instructions to the
bride
on how to prepare herself for her
bridegroom
. The “Renewed Covenant” isn’t taking anything away from the foundation that was established in the Torah and prophets rather it’s reinforcing Torah.
Slide8The “Renewed Covenant” is altogether opposite what the modern teachings proclaim. The definition of the “Renewed Covenant” is found in Jere. 31:31-33: “Behold, the days are coming, says
Yehovah,
when I will make a
“Renewed” covenant
with the house
(
אֶת־בֵּית
) of
Israel
and with the house
(
א
ֶ
ת־בֵּית
)
of
Judah
—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
(
אֶת־אֲבֹותָם
) in
the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My
covenant (
אֶת־בְּרִיתִי
) which
they broke, though I was a
husband
to
them, says Yehovah
. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house
(
אֶת־בֵּית
) of
Israel after those days, says
Yehovah:
Slide9I will put My Torah
אֶת־תֹּֽורָתִי
)
) in
their minds, and
write it on their hearts
; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
It’ important to note there were
NO
covenants given by Yehovah to
“
gentile” people groups. They were always invited to become part of Covenant Israel with the caveat of obeying the “
rules of the kingdom
,” Torah
!
In my opinion being grounded in Torah is imperative to understanding the “Renewed Covenant.” The Torah written on our hearts
IS
the “Renewed Covenant.”
Slide10The Torah consists of the first five books of Scripture: Bereshit (Genesis),
Sh’mot
(Exodus),
V‘yikra
(Leviticus),
B’midbar
(Numbers) and
D’varim
(Deuteronomy). The first four books are the Words spoken directly from the mouth of Yehovah to Moshe which he wrote down (Ex.
24:4) And
Moshe wrote
down
all the words
of
Yehovah.
D’varim, the fifth book, is a retelling of the first four books, and was written by Moshe.
The Jerusalem council is dated to approximately 48 A.D; the subject matter being how to handle the “
gentile
” converts. The issue at hand was not the native born, that is the Hebrew believers of Yeshua, because they already knew what they were supposed to do.
Slide11In Acts 15:20-21 the protocol for “gentile” believers of Yeshua is established.
“But
that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual
immorality, from
things strangled, and
from (eating)
blood. For
Moshe
has had throughout many generations those who preach
him (teach Torah) in
every city, being read in the synagogues every
Sabbath
.” **the four abstentions are the behavior of the Nephilim**
1 Jn. 3:4 Whoever commits sin transgresses also the Torah; for
sin is
the transgression of the Torah (Torahlessness).
Mal. 3:6 For I Yehovah
do
not change
; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.
Slide12Bereshit
ב
ְּ
רֵאשִׁית
“in the beginning”
With that being said let’s begin the 2018-19 Torah reading cycle. The Light of Torah Messianic Congregation frequently refers to the week of creation as the foundation from which all patterns emerge.
Days one thru six use “
two
” different Hebrew words for the creative act. The first Hebrew word is “bara” (
ב
ָּ
רָא
)
which means to create,
shape or form new conditions or circumstances by cutting out or carving.
Slide13בThe letter Bet refers to Yeshua, the Son. Creation was made so Yeshua, the
bridegroom
, would have a house. He will rule and reign from earth for 1000 years. The paleo picture of the Bet is a “floor plan.”
In order to build His house He needs a wife, a
bride
. A man cannot bear fruit by himself; either can a woman. It’s only when the two are joined, Echad (one) can they produce fruit.
The whole of Scripture is about establishing the
bride
and teaching her the “
rules of the kingdom
” so they can live in harmony.
Slide14In the first seven words of the Scripture narrative this Hebrew word is seen twice.
בּ
ְ
רֵא
שִׁית
ב
ָּ
רָא
אֱלֹהִים אֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֵת
הָאָֽרֶץ
This alludes to “
two
” creations. Heaven and earth equal two. Two is also an allusion to the pattern of the “
second
” son. I’ll point this pattern out to you as we make our way through the Torah. One portion (parasha or sidra) builds on another.
Slide15The second Hebrew word used in the creative act is “asah” ( עָשָׂה ).
“Asah” means to appoint, ordain,
institute or to
bring
about.
1:24
-
31
Then
Elohim
said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. And
Elohim
made the beast
(
אֶת־חַיַּת
) of
the earth according to its kind, cattle
(
אֶת־הַבְּהֵמָה
) according
to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And
Elohim
saw that it was good.
Slide16Then Elohim said,
Let
Us make
mankind
in
Our image
, according to Our likeness; let
them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over
all
the earth and over every
creeping
thing that creeps
on
the earth. So
Elohim
created
mankind (
א
ֶ
ת־הָֽאָדָם
) in
his
own image
. In the image of
Elohim he
created
them
; male and female he created
them
. Then
Elohim
blessed
them
, and
Elohim
said to
them
, “Be fruitful and multiply;
replenish
the earth
(
אֶת־הָאָרֶץ
) and
subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Slide17And Elohim said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree (
א
ֶ
ת־כָּל־הָעֵץ
) whose
fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every
(
אֶת־כָּל־יֶרֶק
) green
herb for
food;
and it was so.
Then
Elohim
saw
everything
(
אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר
) that
He had made, and indeed it was
very good
. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day
.
All the DNA from the six days of creation is exactly where Yehovah placed it. DNA is the building blocks of all life.
Slide18The male and female created on day six are referred to as “they,”
they
were created in the
image of Elohim
.
2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were
finished
. And on the seventh day
Elohim
ended
His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Then Elohim
blessed the seventh day
(
אֶת־יֹום
) and
sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which
Elohim had
created
(
בָּרָא
) and
made
(
עָשָׂה
). **The work of creation had come to an end**
Slide19The Hebrew word for finished is כּ
ָ
לָה
.
כ
ָּ
לָה
means
to
be finished, be
ended or
be
completed.
Everything that Elohim “
created
” and “
made
” was completed.
Taken in its proper sequence, the man
formed
in Ge. 2:7 cannot be a retelling of the male and female
created
on day six. A new man
formed
for a specific purpose.
Slide20Ge. 2:7 And Yehovah Elohim formed (יָצַר
) man
(
אֶת־הָֽאָדָם
) of
the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being
. **Now we have a 3
rd
word used in the creative act, forming,
ytzar
**
This man is formed on the
8
th
day, the day following the first Shabbat which occurred on the 7
th
day. This is where the pattern of
8
begins. Recall the number
8
is connected to the covenant.
V 21 And
Yehovah Elohim caused
a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place
. **Out of his side came his bride, Chava; out of Messiah Yeshuas’ side His bride will be grafted in**
Slide21Rom. 11:17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in
among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you
.
The concept for
grafting
the
bride
into the
bridegroom
began in Ge. 2:21 with the 2
nd
man, Adam.
Slide22The GardenThe issue between Adam, Chava and the serpent was
knowledge
. The illicit knowledge obtained from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
After Yehovah pronounced His creation “
very good
” He wanted to keep it that way. The command was given to not partake of the “tree of knowledge,” still they had free will. They chose disobedience. What illicit knowledge they learned was imparted to Cain and Seth.
Slide23Cain4:1 Now Adam knew
Chava (
א
ֶ
ת־חַוָּה
)
his wife, and she conceived and bore
Cain (
אֶת־קַיִן
) and
said, “I have acquired a man from
Yehovah (
אֶת־יְהוָֽה
).”
Then
she bore again, this time his brother
Abel (
אֶת־הָבֶל
).
Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the
(cursed) ground. **notice their order is now reversed**
Cain and Abel were twins. Cain the firstborn became second in status.

Slide25The act of killing his brother was only the beginning of his spiritual decline. The historian Josephus has much to say about his life in the land of Nod.
Slide26Descendants of Cain:
The serpent bloodline
Slide27Slide28The Alef Tav Cain:the Anti Messiah
The historian Josephus writes: And when Cain had travelled over many countries, he, with his wife, built a city, named Nod, which is a place so called, and there he settled his abode, where also he had children. However, he did not accept his punishment, in order to change, but to increase his wickedness for he only aimed to procure everything that was for his own bodily pleasure, though it obliged him to be injurious to his neighbors. **rape, robbery, violence unequal weights and measures and much more
( Josephus, Book 1, chapter 2, pg. 31)
**
Slide29Seth:the royal bloodline
Now the posterity of Seth continued to esteem Yehovah as the Lord of the universe, and to have an entire regard to virtue, for
seven
generations; but in the process of time they were perverted, and forsook the practices of their forefathers, and did neither pay those honors to Elohim which were appointed them, nor had they any concern to do justice towards men.
(Josephus, Chap. 3, pg. 32)
Slide30Ge. 6:1 - 7Now it came to pass, when men began to
multiply
on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to
them
(this is speaking to the male and female created on day six),
that the
sons of God
(
בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים
) saw
the daughters
(
א
ֶ
ת־בְּנֹות
) of
men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose
.
The
בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים
are the “fallen” angels. We will discuss the “fallen” angels later.
Slide31And Yehovah said, “My Spirit shall not
strive
with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be
one hundred and twenty years
.” There were giants
(
הַנְּפִלִים
) on
the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then
Yehovah
saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And
Yehovah was
sorry that He had made
man (
אֶת־הָֽאָדָם
) on
the earth, and He was grieved in His heart
. ** after all, the male and female were made in the image of Elohim**
Slide32So Yehovah said, “I will destroy man whom I have
created
from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made
them
.” **these are “
them
” from day five and six**
The “fallen” angels are also referred to in Job 1:6 – 7
.
Job
1:6 - 7
Now
there was a day when the sons of
God
בְּנֵי
הָאֱלֹהִים
)
) came
to present themselves before Yehovah, and Satan also came among them. And Yehovah said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered Yehovah and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
Slide33And it came to pass when the children of men has multiplied that in those days were born to them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels, the children of heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: ‘Come, let us choose wives from among the children of men and have children.’ And Semjaza, who was their leader, said to them: ‘I fear you will not indeed agree to do this deed
, (what's wrong with this deed? Mixing DNA)
and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a
great sin
.’ And they all answered him and said: ‘Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.’
And they were in all two hundred who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon
….(The Book of Enoch, R. H. Charles, pg. 8)
Slide34The offspring of the “fallen” angels, the Bnei Elohim, and the daughters of men are the Nephilim.
Demons are the disembodied souls of dead Nephilim.
(Lost in Translation, Vol. 1, pg. 99)
A good example is found in Mt. 8:28 –
34: When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes
,
there met Him two
demon-possessed
men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You,
Yeshua,
You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”
Slide35Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go
away
into the herd of swine.” And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water. Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. And behold, the whole city came out to meet
Yeshua.
And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region
.
Slide36The moral of this story is: Had these 200 “fallen” angels NOT mated with the daughters of men, corrupting the
DNA
, we wouldn’t still be dealing with them today.
The bad thing is they will be back in force during the tribulation!
Slide37In conclusion, there is
much more
to Parasha
Bereshit than
the week of creation. We see the first separation of the
holy
(Alef Tav light) vs the profane (
darkness
).
If we don’t see it the first time, Scripture gives us this picture again in the relationship between Abel the
shepherd
(Yeshua the
good shepherd
) killed by his brother Cain, tiller of the already cursed earth (Yeshua killed by his brothers).
If we don’t see it the first and second time we are given the account of the Nephilim. The fallen angels who mated with the daughters of men created these “mixed seed abominations.” Scripture continues to give us this picture until we reach the conclusion that the line between good and evil, the holy and the profane, was established Bereshit, “in the beginning.”
Slide38Haftarah
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah)
42:5 – 21 Thus says
Yehovah,
he that
created
the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which
comes
out of it; he that
gives
breath
to
the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
I Yehovah have
called you in
righteousness
, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a
covenant
of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in
darkness
out of the prison house.
I
am
Yehovah:
that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images
.
V 21 Elohim desired for the sake of [Israel’s]
righteousness
that the Torah be made great and glorious.
Slide40Brit ChadashaMt. 1:1-17 = the lineage of Messiah from Abraham
Mt. 19:3-9 = speaks to the creation, male and female
Mk. 10:1-12 = speaks to the male and female
Lk. 3:23-38 = the lineage of Messiah from
Yehovah
Jn. 1:1-18 = In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with

He was with
God
in the beginning etc.
Slide411Cor. 6:15-20 = and the two will become one flesh1 Cor. 15:35-58 = became a living human being(connecting to Ge. 2:7)
Rom. 5:12-21 = All this happened so that just as sin ruled by means of death, so also grace might rule through causing people to be considered righteous, so that they might have eternal life, through Yeshua the Messiah, our Lord.
Eph. 5:21-32 = therefore a man will leave his father and mother and remain with his wife, and the two will become one.
Slide42Col. 1:14-17 = It is through His
Son that we have
redemption.
He is the visible image of the invisible
God
. He is supreme over all creation, because in connection with him were created all things-in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, lordships, rulers or authorities-they have all been created through him and for him. He existed before all things, and he holds everything together.
There
are a few more but I think we get the point
