Kylie is currently the Senior Client Services Librarian at the University of Melbourne. She has held a diverse range of library roles in learning and teaching and frontline services across the University and TAFE sector, including Client Services and Liaison Librarian, Subject Librarian and Lending Services Coordinator.

An RMIT graduate, my career in public libraries has been focussed on operational management and leadership – I have worked in roles such as Youth Librarian, Branch Manager & Operations Manager.  In my current role as Manager Branch Services, I am involved in recruitment for all front of house roles at Whitehorse Manningham Libraries.

Deborah Tout-Smith – Museum Victoria

Deborah Tout-Smith is Senior Curator, Home & Community, in the Humanities Department of Museum Victoria. She has curated major exhibitions including

World War I: Love & Sorrow (2014), The Melbourne Story (with Liza Dale-Hallett, 2008), Spirit of the Games (2006) and Foundations of Fremantle (1997). Deborah curates Museum Victoria’s Home & Community, Clothing & Textiles and Childhood collections, and co-curates the Military History collection. Her publications include Melbourne: a City of Stories

(Deborah Tout-Smith (ed.), Museum Victoria Press, 2008). Deborah holds a Master of Arts in Public History degree from Monash University and a BA (Hons) in History & Sociology from La Trobe University.

inputs needed for the role: knowledge about theories or principles, practical procedures, specialized techniques, etc., analytical and conceptual skills and abilities, and skills needed for direct interaction with others.Slide27

Demonstrated

research

experience

in a relevant discipline and/or relevant knowledge in one or more of the following fields is essential: Australian Social History; Migration History; Public History; Material Culture.

Extensive experience

in the use of public archives, library resources and genealogical sources for research.

Experience

in the use of a museum collection management database, such as Emu.

Demonstrated knowledge

of contemporary museum collection management practices, including the appropriate handling and use of object-based collections.

Sound communication and interpersonal skills

– particularly the ability to

engage

with community groups and individuals,

write

for a public audience and

represent

the Museum to the wider community.

Demonstrated ability

to work effectively both in a team and as an individual, and sound

time-management

skills.
