What is Early Childhood Caries?

Definition of ECC: When a child 0-5 years old has 1 or more decayed, missing (due to caries) or filled teeth.

Early childhood caries (ECC) are also known as cavities. Previously known as “baby bottle tooth decay”

The first sign of ECC are white spots at the gum line and on the front of the teeth.If

tooth.The % of children and adolescents aged 5-19 years with untreated tooth decay is twice as high from those from low income families (25%) compared with children from higher income households (11%).
