UAT
Not our first Rodeo
We had prior knowledge of a UAT process, from when we centralised our servers but it was very different. All Staff involved.
Data Export
Tidy up of Data and Export
. Duplicate patron records. Spaces in barcodes. Change to Export Tables Required.
Data Fix
Data Fix Spreadsheet
Suppression Rules . MARC mappings
Real UAT
UAT and more UAT
UAT really happened in September when students came back and we had “live” issues..
Go Live
Very Exciting
No Issues for IT Sligo. Good Time of year. Summer.

Slide6Slide7Slide8Lessons Learnt Summary
Initially Software used for project Management was confusing at first.
UAT and training too short. Hard to train on a live system that’s only starting off.
More Training documentation was Required.
Confusion over Communication methods.
Metadata mapping from proprietary system created significant issues. Material typesFor early implementers - many issues identified that have been resolved in subsequent projectsMore info needed in advance - chicken and eggWe all have different business practices. No one size fits all solution
We all did very well in very short space of time
Ch,Ch,Changes!!
Moving to a browser based system (cookies, popups)
Using frameworks for cataloguing
Changing from WAM to
Edugate
(Shibboleth) /Ezproxy. IT Sligo moved to ezproxy in 2016Live Updates (no more postings for funds!)Item Records on ebooksACQ: PO’s do not contain PO number, using baskets, fund adjusting very clunkyAlso moving discovery systems, data uploads, problems with eBooksKoha online manual confusing, does not directly link to the correct version
Slide10What we like
Wordpress
. Much faster. More features. Not as many css
and
javascript
hacks. Edi quotes and orders-quickHyperlinked system. You can easily click to open a patron record from a cat record etc.EDS and Koha easily customised. EDS has fewer dead links than our previous discovery productAccessibility (browser) Easy to put links to other systems on staff dashboardCataloguing: Once we got to grips with using frameworks. Great to have Authority Control for every single recordReporting (once you get the hang of SQL)Single sign-on - no PINs!Support Desk based in same time-zoneEducampus Support as Back-Up and as an advocate
Using
Teamworks
as a collaborative tool
No locked records
Future proof
POTENTIAL- Koha has great potential for us. Plugins etc. No extra charge
Slide11EDS Discovery
Using it as default search in GMIT and IT Sligo
Automatic uplifts from library catalogue twice a week
User friendly, easy navigation on LHS
Narrow by the usual facets, including content provider (not possible on previous system)
Results include online videos (AP)Support provided by Ebsco and Interleaf with the possibility of escalation via Educampus

Slide16Exam Papers
Previously hosted on our old library server, past exam papers have been transferred to a separate app, hosted by Interleaf
Controlled by
Ezproxy
access, compiled of drop-down easily navigable indexes they are very accessible for our patrons
View, download and pdf printing facilitated
Slide17Research Repository
Slide18Piwik Analytics
Slide19Challenges
No Penalty point system
Browser based, some users finding it difficult to get used to
Opac searching (ranking)
Field protection in patron records
Acquisitions very different - no postingInter Library Loan System coming in next releaseNo Partners searches of each others catalogues Staff move between campuses all the time. Were used to a login based system. With Koha your location is linked to your staff record, need to remember to switch locations when logging on at a different location.Claiming of serials not possible via EDICredit Notes not catered for by system, need to put workarounds in placeSome functionality not there but Interleaf/Educampus are working together to get some of the development we need in place
Slide20Opportunities
Collaboration (to-day!)
Further our potential with new systems e.g. Coral, Booked etc.
Reading lists system (yet to be implemented) will greatly aid collection development
LibU (Library User Group) set up to oversee system implementation, identify training gaps, under the EduCampus umbrella
Libu wiki/shared space where we can share procedures, documentation, queries etc.Now that all IOTs have implemented, many training sessions are being arranged on a sectoral level.Supplier is responsive to our needs and willing to co-operate through creating webinars, discussing our issues and seeking potential solutionsLink with larger Koha-community for software development issues
