License Description: DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: An Optometrist examines, diagnoses, treats, and manages muscular, or other diseases and disorders of the human visual system, the eye, and the eyelids. Included are the use and prescription of non-invasive diagnostic procedures or ordering of laboratory tests and the prescribing, fitting, or adaptation of any ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, prisms, frames, mountings, or orthopic exercises for the correction or relief of the visual or muscular anomalies of the human eye. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Education requirements: Graduate from an optometric college, school, or university approved by the Board and accredited by a regional or professional accreditation organization and recognized by the council on post-secondary accreditation or by the United States Department of Education. EXAMINATIONS: National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) exam: Part I, II, and III. Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease (TMOD) exam required for therapeutically certified optometrists. FEES: In 2021, pay $107 (application $15, license $42, compliance resolution fund $50). In 2022, pay $242 (application $15, license $42, compliance resolution fund $100, ½ renewal for 2nd year of 2-year license $85).
