Tafsir of verse 1In this verse our Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is known as ‘the wrapped up’ In this verse our Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is known as ‘the wrapped up’ Whenever the Holy Prophet (pbuh) received a revelation he used to feel a shivering in his body and he felt necessary to cover himself with some cloth

Tafsir of verse 2 and 3 These verses are referring to the beginning where believers had to offer the midnight ‘Tahajjud’ prayers People did not know the exact hour of praying the merciful Lord revealed that they only had to stand in prayers only for a small part of the night

Relevant verses  فَذَكِّرۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَڪِّرٌ۬ - “So admonish – for you are only an admonisher” وَمِنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ فَتَهَجَّدۡ بِهِۦ نَافِلَةً۬ لَّكَ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَبۡعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامً۬ا مَّحۡمُودً۬ا“And keep vigil for a part of the night, as a supererogatory [devotion] for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station.

Relevant Ahadith Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “The archangel Gabriel continuously advises me about standing for prayer in the night such that I really thought the good people in my community will never sleep.” “The night prayer brightens one’s face, the night prayer fragrances one’s breath, and the night prayer attracts sustenance.”
