Bob de Klerk appointed ODPL Director, emphasizing player developmentSept 10, 2014 Bob de Klerkwas appointed as the first OPDL Director for Glen Shields FC on Tuesday and said he is pleased to be returning to Canada on a National Women's Teams and USA NCAA Division University Soccer Scholarships and having de Klerkon staff will provide the necessarycatalystto bring our boys program to the forefrontagain' saidBenning.Glen ShieldsFC is the smallest youth soccer Club in York Region and one of the smallest in Ontario, located in the City of Vaughan by the town of Thornhill. It is the only Club without a City Identitywithin its name. This smallClubfocuseson quality rather than quantity and has been quietly producing players since 1982. Many are familiar with their success asparents who have dotheir research knowwho athe real professional coaches with a pedigree of teaching the game correctly and have shown it consistentlywith a proven recordof players who have gone onto higher level of playThis past year GFC produced 2 players (Victoria Pickett University of Wisconsin & Jordane Cavery (LSU))to play forour u20 Canadian National Women's Team (u20CWNT) at the age of 18,two years younger. They will be eligibleto play in the World Cup again in two years time. Devon Kerr was another Glen Shields FC product for the u17 Canadian National Women's Team (u17CWNT) who started in goal at this yearsu17 World Cup in Costa Rica back in AprilTo top this achievement, Benning and his staff coached 16 players onto soccer scholarships to the USAand 4 toCanadian Universities.Among them were:Ohio State University, University of Texas, University of Kentucky, University of Oakland,Louisiana State University, (2) LouisianaState at Monroe, Duquesnse University, (3) University of Pittsburgh, LeMoyne College NY, University of South Carolina, University of Wisconsin, University of South Florida, University of MemphisUniversity of Waterloo, University of Laurier, Queen’s University and University of OttawaAccording to Mike Pozzulo VicePresident of GFC Dave Benning hascoached at the u17 World Cup for Canada and been instrumental with the Canadian National Teams Program for the past years identifying and coaching young players, hiring Dave Benning back in 2012 was crucial for our players.
