Poppy
Poppy is a curious, but timid deer mouse who was in love with Ragweed, a golden mouse.
She is the most important character in the book.
Early in the book, she was attacked by Mr. Ocax and got a scar on her nose
She killed Mr. Ocax by stabbing him in the claw and directing him into the salt lick.Slide5
Mr. Ocax
Mr. Ocax the horned owl and second most important charachter is the tyrant “ruler” of the Dimwood Area.
He provides the Gray House mice false information about porcupines, and also lies
about his fears (Who wouldn't, though?).
After accidentally letting Poppy escape, he vows that he'll kill her, but he ends up dying by Poppy's hand, which is ironicSlide6
Ereth
Ereth (Erethizon Dorsatum) is a porcupine who keeps saying things like “bee's butt” and “grasshopper gass”.
He literaly lives right across the street (or clearing) from Mr. Ocax, and helps Poppy go to New House safely.
Ereth loooooves salt, “every kind,” according to him.Slide7
Lungwort & Sweet Cicely
Lungwort is Poppy's father and patriarch of the Gray House mice.
He asks Mr. Ocax's permission to move to new house, but it is denied.
He is not a very important character, but he's important enough.
Sweet Cicely is Poppy's mother and Lungwort's ever-faithful wife.
She acts as matriarch, but her role, other than helping her husband, isn't great.
She's also very fussy about everythingSlide8
Conflicts and Resolutions
The Gray House mice are opressed by Mr. Ocax's rule
Mr.
Ocax
dies by crashing into the salt lick, smashing it to pieces.
(death by salt lick
)
Poppy promised the salt lick to
ereth, but has no way of getting it
The Gray House mice are mad at Poppy for going to Bannock Hill without permission.
She goes through dimwood
forest to scout the New House area.Slide9
Personal (but not Private) Reflections
I mostly like Poppy, or in other words, I really like Poppy, especially
because of two characters: Ragweed and
Ereth
. Another reason I like
Poppy
is that I like books in which animals talk...
inteligently. My favorite part is when Ragweed says “them there dude porcupines!” The people I seriously recommend this book to is everyone above age five who hasn't read it yet. Unfortunately, this is not my favorite book, even though it is quite close.Slide10
Poppy's Changes of Thought
IN THE BEGINING...
Poppy likes Ragweed
She's very timid/shy
Poppy is terrified by the thought of
porcupines
LATER THOUGH...
She likes Rye
She becomes braver
Poppy is not terrified by the thought of
porcupines
