No machine will be operated without first receiving permission from the instructor, each and every time, not just at the beginning of the period. Keep the working surface of all machines free of all scraps and tools. Check the floor around the work area as well. Keep fingers away from all moving parts at least 3 to 6 inches.Students will not distract another student using any power tool.Keep your attention on what you are doing.Slide6

Special setups on machines may involve hazards. Request the instructor to check and approve all setups before you use any power machine.

Be sure that all students are clear of the tool before turning on the power. The safety zone is a two feet on all sides of any power machine. Safety glasses will be worn at all times when performing operations that result in chips, shavings, dust, or flying particles of any nature. Slide7

Never put a sharp edged tool so that it is beyond the edge surface of your tables.

Handle hot-melt glue guns with care. To pass them safely, set them down and let the other person pick them up. Unplug and let them cool down at the counter top.

Return all tools to their proper storage area when finished. All tools and safety glasses are not to leave the STEM room for any reason. One sided razor blades, x-acto knifes, and utility knifes are to be checked out at the beginning of the period and returned to the instructor at the end of the period.
