Section Candidate
Metrics
Definition
Addition Candidates
The
addition candidate metric represents the percentage of total sections in a schedule that could potentially be added to the schedule based on sufficient pent up demand to justify at least half of one additional section.
Reduction Candidates
The
reduction candidate metric represents the percentage of total sections in a schedule that could potentially be removed from the schedule based on insufficient demand to justify these sections.
Elimination
Candidates
The elimination
candidate metric represents the percentage of total sections in a schedule associated with courses that could potentially be removed from that term’s schedule and placed in a revolving pattern of every other, or third term. This metric, too, is based on insufficient demand to justify offering these courses.

Slide19HB1 GuidanceEmail Concerns
Elizabeth Wilmer
Slide20HB1 Guidance
HB1 restricts the release of certain student directory information without student consent.Colleges should not
release the following student record information under the directory information exception:
Email address (all types, including the VCCS student email)
Physical address (all types)
Phone number (all types)
If students want this information released to a 3
rd
party, they will have to consent in writing. This consent should be documented/retained in the student record. This is the same process you use now for release of non-directory information. This will add the three items above to the list of information that requires consent for release
.
If your college has a public directory of students that includes any of the items above, it should be eliminated or placed behind an authentication wall (i.e. staff log-in,
MyVCCS
, etc
.)
If you send out ‘all student’ communications through your email system, ensure that all student emails are in the BCC line. No student emails should be shown to the recipients
.
When a student receives an email sent to the entire class sent by the instructor in Blackboard, they only see the course number and instructor’s name, no email addresses appear. This is still an acceptable way to email everyone in the class under this new law.

Slide41Adjunct Faculty Growth and Development Plan
Amy Anguiano
Slide42The PurposeThe purpose of this plan is to create an environment for adjunct teaching faculty that promotes professional growth and high performance resulting in measurable student success. The performance and growth process is intended to provide information about a faculty member’s professional growth and instructional performance.
Slide43The Plan SummaryThis plan defines the process by which adjunct faculty members will attain and remain in “Good Standing.” This designation identifies an adjunct faculty member as engaged in professional growth and committed to quality instruction while making a faculty member eligible for professional recognition through each college’s recognition process. A “Good Standing” designation is an indication of quality at the individual college level. A “Good Standing” designation neither guarantees nor implies future contract awards.
Slide44The Four Domains
Adjunct Faculty Growth and Development – Each college shall identify and/or create, as needed, a range of professional development opportunities to support adjunct faculty growth and development. Adjunct faculty members will engage in growth and development in accordance with the timeline specified in this plan.
Teaching Effectiveness – Adjunct
faculty members are encouraged to pursue excellence in teaching across four areas: Design, Delivery, Effectiveness, and Expertise. Through the use of tools and data sources (e.g. classroom observation, student course evaluation data, student success metrics), adjunct teaching effectiveness will be reviewed in accordance with the timeline specified in this plan.
Institutional Responsibility – In addition
to instructional duties, adjunct faculty members are required to meet minimum requirements of institutional responsibility (e.g. office hours, preparation and distribution of syllabi, meeting attendance, adherence to policy, completion of administrative instructional tasks).
Adjunct
Faculty
Recognition -- Each
college shall devise a plan to provide recognition of outstanding service for adjunct faculty members whose performance exemplifies the highest standards of educational excellence within the classroom or in service to the college community.
