Types of beer

There are only two – ales and lagersAles are brewed using top-fermenting yeast.

The beer type is ancient (5,000 years old), generally darker in color, and has a more complex, robust

flavorLagers are brewed using bottom-fermenting

yeastThey are new to our world (only a few hundred years old), generally lighter in color, and have a crisp, clean flavorSlide11

There are many stylesSlide12

What is an Ale?

Ale is synonymous for beerTop fermenting yeasts

Ferment at higher temperatures (64° – 72 °)

AppearanceColor, clarity, nature of the head

MouthfeelThe feel of beer in the mouth, both from the thickness of the beer and from carbonationSlide16

Enjoying Beer

Always pour beer into a glassDrinking from the bottle or can traps carbonation and flavor which can leave you feeling bloated

Pouring

down the center of the glass releases carbonation, flavor and aroma of the beerPouring down the side of the glass minimizes foam and traps carbonation leaving the beer flat looking and gassy tastingSlide17
