The Hidalgo County Metropolitan Planning Organization (HCMPO) is currently developing a Free Regional Bike Map covering routes across Hidalgo County. Many counties across the United States have developed useful and popular bike maps promoting a bicycle friendly America. HCMPO has collected data to create a bike map that will promote health, mobility, environmentalism, and safety within our community. How to Encourage? Become a “Bike Friendly Business” (BFB )

CAMPO Bike Map, Latest Edition “Bike Friendly Business” MAP (Example) What Will It Contain? Map with bike routes/lanes categorized by comfort/experience level, which will be determined by the speed of the roadway

What Will It Contain? Identify routes and bike friendly businesses. This particular map was created by the City of Seattle, Washington.

How was the Idea Was Conceived? The Hidalgo County Metropolitan Planning Organization (HCMPO) developed a public survey asking RGV cyclists and its transportation committees about their ideas on creating a “Bike Friendly Business” Map

HCMPO Survey Results:RGV Cyclists’ Input on BFBsBicycle Pedestrian Task Force wanted to encourage businesses to become more welcoming to the growing cycling community Wanted to create a bicycle map with routes and lists of BFBs to stop during their rideAn online survey was created by the MPO via SurveyMonkey to get cyclist inputSent via email to all Bike/Ped Task Force Members, who then shared the surveyPlaced on all Social Media Outlets A total of 108 survey respondentsA copy of the full survey results can be requested by emailing info@hcmpo.org
