Continuing Education Requirements (CE) for LICENSEES ** EXCEPTION S – First Time License Renewals are EXEMPT A Notice of Final Rulemaking issued on September 30, 2011 added two (2) new sections to the DC Municipal Regulations, (DCMR) Chapter 37 Barber and Cosmetology . Section 3730 refers to Continuing Education (CE) Requirements for Licensees and applies to DC Barber, Cosmetology and Specialty licensed practitioners. DCMR at http://www.asisvcs.com/publications/pdf/670979.pdf "This rulemaking establishes continuing education (CE) requirements for applicants seeking to renew or reinstate a professional license approved by the Board of Barber and Cosmetology and establishes stan dards and administrative procedures for the approval of continuing education programs." DC Barber, Cosmetology or Specialty licensee s must complete six (6) Continuing Education (CE) credits during each two (2) year cycle period to renew his/her license. A practitioner renewing a license shall submit to the Board proof of having completed at least six hours in an approved continuing education program or course during the term of the license.  Barbers must complete six (6) CEs by their next renewal date – September 30, 2015  Cosmetologists and Cosmeto logy Specialists must complete six (6) CEs before April 2016 Two (2) hours must be in health, safety and /or welfare subjects. Four (4) hours shall consist of general elective course s – See below Continuing Education COURSES can include , but are not limited to : 1) Courses related to the practice of barbering, cosmetology, and specialty cosmetology; 2) District laws and regulations; 3) Ethics and standards of professional practice; 4) Occupational health , safety and welfare 5) HIV/AIDS , communicable and infectious disease control; 6) Product knowledge ; 7) Business; 8) Management (Managers only); and 9) Education or Instruction (Instructors only).
