The standards address ethics and integrity, corporate governance, efficient use of funds, results, true and fair accounting, transparency, accountability as well as fundraising and communication. Zewo is the primaryentity that collects data on philanthropy in Switzerland (Zewo, 2020). Zewo certifies many foundations and nonprofit organizations with a Zewo seal, and original data on giving comes from the accounts of Zewocertified organizations. Data is then extrapolated to represent the entire population of the country. Where its reports provide percentages of giving at the international level, this amount was taken from total giving by corporations, foundations, and individuals to obtain total crossborder giving by each category.DING CROSSBORDER CHARITABLE DONATIONSCrossborder donations are permitted and are not subject to additional taxes or restrictions (Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, 2018). Tax incentives for domestic donations do not apply to crossborder donations unless theyare sent through a Swiss nonprofit organization.RECEIVING CROSSBORDER CHARITABLE DONATIONS o additional regulations are imposed on receiving crossborder donations, and the same tax incentives as those for domestic donations apply(Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, 2018)o limitationsarein place fortheintended useof crossborder contributions, but donations must comply with the law on antimoney launderingESTIMATED CROSSBORDER GIVINGAccording to Zewo statistics, total giving in Switzerland was CHF 1.81 billion in 2018, of which total aggregate crossborder giving was CHF 556.4 million(Zewo, 2020). echt et al., 2020). GLOBAL PHILANTHROPY TRACKER 2020 KEY DEVELOPMENTS AND TRENDS IN CROSSBORDER GIVINGEach year, foundations in Switzerland are becoming increasingly global. Almost half of new foundations created in Switzerlandin 2018 were not associated with any local authority, indicating a tendency to operate in larger scale at the international level (Eckhardt et al., 2019). In addition to the traditional methods of payment, technology has opened several new means of payment that could facilitate increased amounts of donations within Switzerland and at the international level. Organization websites are the most popular digital methods the Swiss are using to make contributions, but crowdfunding, SMS messaging, and phone applications areemerging donation technologies (Zewo, 2020).ReferencesCentre d’Étude et de Recherche sur la Philanthropie.
