Don’t Worry; Just Enjoy Life On God’s TermsMatthew 6:25-34Slide2

“"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.Slide3

Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.Slide4

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.Slide5

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:25-34‬ ‭ESV‬‬Slide6

Big Idea: Do not let worry over the future destroy the life you have today.

“Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles; it empties today of its strength.” - Corrie ten BoomSlide7

The word worry comes from an old English word meaning “to choke or strangle.”Slide8

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:27, 34‬ ‭ESV‬‬Slide9

Here are some of the dangers of worrying too much.

1. Worrying can damage our health. Slide10

2. Worrying can disrupt our spiritual productivity.Slide11

3. Worrying affects the way we treat others.Slide12

The fact that God loves us and values us should make us realize He wants to provide for us in order for us to enjoy life on His terms.Slide13

FIRST, TO WORRY LESS AND ENJOY LIFE MORE WE MUST REPLACE WORRY WITH PRAYER.

(Phil 4:6-7) "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."Slide14

SECOND, TO WORRY LESS AND ENJOY LIFE MORE WE MUST LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME.

In (Mt. 6:34), Jesus offers us some wise words to live by. “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”Slide15

LASTLY, TO WORRY LESS AND ENJOY LIFE MORE WE MUST STOP WORRYING ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE OUT OF OUR CONTROL.

Worrying is a futile attempt to maintain a false sense of control over our lives. We can be free from anxiety when we trust in God’s unfailing love for us and seek Him first.--unknownSlide16

Craig Groeschel on Twitter: "Worrying often indicates we're not willing to let God handle certain things - at least not in His way, and certainly not in His time."Slide17

APPLICATION:

If you are worried about something? Ask yourself these five questions:

1) Have I prayed about it?

2) Do I act like I believe what I say I believe?

3) Can I survive the worst with God’s help?

4) How much will it matter 100 years from now?

5) Am I making the most of today? (Since I can’t control the future, what am I doing now?)Slide18

What has you worried now that is strangling you and choking the life out of you? What worries do you need to give to God before the end of this year? Please write those worries on the sticky note provided to you and place on the cross today. Today we want to leave our worries behind and enjoy life on God’s terms.Slide19

God this/these problem(s) on my sticky note are/is causing me to worry. I’m going to give this to You to handle. Give me Your wisdom and strength to carry out my part in dealing with this. Help me understand the real reason I worry about this so You can set me free from my misperceptions.Slide20

In the meantime, help me not to worry about it. If I begin to worry about this again, gently remind me that You are in control. I know I can trust You to lead me through this/these situation(s) because I know You love me, you value me, and have promised never to leave me or forsake me. Amen.
